Zokket is the main antagonist of Mario & Luigi: Brothership. He is a mysterious man who seeks to destroy Concordia and trap everyone in solitude.
Description[]
Personality[]
Zokket is portrayed as having no care for others as shown through his habit of constantly forgetting the names of most, with the exceptions of Bowser and Connie. The Extension Corps are often aggravated by this and tell him their actual names.
Physical Appearance[]
Zokket is a cloaked humanoid figure with a skull for a head, albeit missing a jaw. His eyes are black with reddish-orange pupils (which turn gold in an enraged state), and his getup consists of a top hat that covers red and green cables, a maroon cloak with golden linings resembling Cackletta's dress, and a blue long-sleeved robe underneath. His arms are creepy and end with pentadactyl white-gloved hands.
History[]
After Cozette vanished prior to the events of the game, Zokket seized his chance and desecrated the Uni-Tree, resulting in a chain reaction that sundered Concordia. Zokket also created the Zokket Army.
Zokket's first in-game appearance has him visited by his higher-ups, the Extension Corps. Later, on Desolatt Island, Zokket tells his minions to deal with the Bros., after which Ten takes the job.
Later, in the Color-Full Sea Great Lighthouse, Zokket is seen commenting on Ecks summoning Sharpcask to deal with the Bros. Later, in the Brrning Sea Great Lighthouse, Zokket has Shun take up the task, with Shun summoning the Pipegunk.
Zokket later tests his latest weapon, the Glohmatic Quad-Ray, on Bowser, at his fortress. After the Bros. defeat and restore Bowser, Zokket uses the weapon again to kill Mario and Luigi, although this fails. He later taunts Connie about this, but she remains hopeful of her reunion with her mentor and that the Bros. are alive.
Zokket later tasks the Extension Corps with dealing with the Bros. during the second attack on his fortress. However, the Corps fails and retreats. When the Bros. enter his chamber, Zokket decides to fight the Bros. himself, only to be slain despite fighting at his full potential. In his final moments, Zokket donates the last of his life energy to the egg in his fortress, giving a monster called Reclusa the power it needed to reawaken. However, Cozette is rescued and taken back to Shipshape Island where she recovers and reunites with her pupil.
Names in other Languages[]
In Japanese, Zokket is called Zoketto, written ゾケット. This comes from a voicing of the English word "socket" with the T doubled, just like with his English name except the latter has the velar consonant doubled. Zokket's Chinese name, Zhuókǒngzuò, was formed by transcribing his Japanese name 卓孔座. In Spanish, he has the name Shocke, derived from a corruption of choque ("shock"). Portuguese translates his name as Ampério, from the unit "ampere" which measures the strength of a current and império ("empire"). Italian calls him Skónnet, from disconnéttere ("to disconnect/unplug"); this could potentially allude to how he "disconnected" Concordia. The French dub gives him the name Voltfas, from "volt" and a corruption of "face." Dutch translates his name as "Shoqx," from a misspelling of "shocks." In German, he bears the name Stekdov, from Steckdose ("socket") and the Russian patronymic surname -ov (written -ов).
