William Afton is one of, if not the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's series as a whole. His place in the lore is one of the major parts of said lore, as he is notorious for being in many incidents based around his crimes.

His sprites usually depict him as a purple human, with one of them containing a yellow object on his chest, most likely a badge. However, since that depiction is from the minigames, it's not actually the case in reality.

Personality

William Afton is a sadistic and depraved serial killer. He shows no remorse when it comes to murdering his victims, all of whom were young children. He cared for nobody but himself and was an abusive and controlling parent, having beaten Evan Afton and yelling at him for locking his door. William is rather a master of manipulation, convincing them to. He does things that would only benefit himself and nobody else. He is also an alcoholic and was banned from Jr's, implying that he would get incredibly violent and angry when drunk. Afton is an evil individual with no regrets for what he has done.

William Afton is a calm, manipulative smooth-talker, being able to convince anyone of almost anything. When he was around people, he was similar to Santa Claus in the sense that he was jolly, good-natured and affable. However, this is likely just a façade put on by William to trick people into believing he is to be trusted.

Afton appeared to mentally unwell, as he had an unhealthy obsession about Henry and the animatronics during the time he was alive in his human form. He owned multiple journals which he filled with passages about Henry that varied from mild jealousy to near worship. It's likely that Afton was jealous of Henry's engineering skills as well as his happy family, giving him a reason as to why he killed Charlie.

William Afton is proven to be quite intelligent. He was financially shrewd and knew his way around business, was able to design complex machines and found a way to cheat death. He is also confident, determined and scientific as he studied remnant in order to become immortal. It is indicated that he has a fear of death, the most likely reason as to why he would want to become immortal was so he would avoid going to Hell.
