Details

The following are some key details and bits of trivia about the Wii U and its unique controller.

  • The Wii U's controller is single touch only.
  • The Wii U will be released sometime between April and December of 2012.
  • The controller will have rumble feedback.
  • Nintendo-developed Wii accessories will be compatible with the Wii U. New accessories, including a new Zapper-styled controller, are in development.
  • Due to recent rumors from the manufactures of the PS3, the PS4, with Kinect-Like technology as it's "main gimmick" will show up to rival the Wii U. This is just a rumor on www.gameinformer.com, but they are very reliable. Also, the PS4 is under much disappointment recently because of the PSN shutdown, and Sony's ongoing trend of "stealing" the company ideas of other Manufactures, including the likes of Microsoft and Nintendo. It wouldn't be unplausible, however, as the Vita will launch between late 2011 to early 2012, and would be in some way compatible with this PS4.
  • Iwata has stated that the price will be no less than $250. This makes the launch price a likely $300 after Nintendo's constant statements in the terms of it's price.
  • The Wii U can not play DVD's or Blu-Ray. This is to cut the costs of the console down. This makes you think, how much is the controller itself worth?
  • Iwata and Miyamota have both stated that the 3DS will be a likely functioning controller for the new console.
  • Microsoft has stated that the Xbox 360 is halfway through it's lifetime. This means that the new console should supposedly come anywhere from 2013 to 2017, but it is likely on a 2014 launch. This may mean that the Wii U has nearly no competitors for it's few years of launch.
