WiiWare is an addition to Nintendo's Wii Shop Channel that was added in March, 2008 (for Japan), and May of 2008 (in America). The game is different from the Virtual Console as it includes original titles rather than previously released games. Most of the WiiWare titles are constructed by indie developers and consists of a small team. Also, many WiiWare titles are PC ports. The titles have so far cost between 500 and 1500 Wii Points, or five to fifteen dollars. The Pay to Play system can also be included, and was present in launch title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King.
Mr. Iwata, former president of Nintendo, also revealed that there were currently 100 different WiiWare titles in development. When DSiWare was shutdown on March 31, 2017, WiiWare was still available, but it was also discontinued on January 31, 2019.
