Whispy Woods (ウイスピーウッズ, Uisupī Uzzu) is a very commonly-used boss in the Kirby series; he first appeared in Kirby's Dream Land and is a large apple tree that has a face and a branch-like nose. His most common attacks are to make apples fall on Kirby, blow air puffs, and shoot his roots at Kirby. He generally appears as the first boss in many Kirby games. The best way to counterattack without a copy ability is to inhale apples and shoot them back at him.

Appearances

Kirby series

Whispy Woods hasn't made many appearances outside of the Kirby series, but within this juggernaut of a franchise he has appeared in 12 video games and even the anime. He's one of the most popular bosses in the series, albeit one of the easiest as well. Unfortunately there is not copy ability from Whispy Woods, presumably because of its large size. While Whispy Woods does not appear, surprisingly, in Kirby & the Amazing Mirror for the Game Boy Advance, a boss named King Golem looks strikingly similar, and in Kirby Squeak Squad for the Nintendo DS, he is just briefly seen (not battled).

Super Smash Bros.

GreenGreens

Whispy Woods as he appears in Melee and Brawl.

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Whispy Woods has made an appearance in every game, which includes Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee on the GameCube, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii. In the first entry into the series, Whispy Woods appeared on the Dream Land stage and in the latter two the Green Greens stage. In all games his role would be identical - Blowing puffs of air at the players and dropping apples on the players. In Melee the player could collect a trophy of him.

The following is Whispy Woods' trophy description:

A boss enemy from Kirby's Dream Land. Whispy Woods is a big tree that shoots whirlwinds at Kirby. It isn't the toughest enemy: all Kirby has to do is avoid the occasional whirlwind, suck in apples that fall down, and then shoot them back at the tree. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Whispy Woods is quite the blowhard.

Trivia

  • Whispy Woods makes a surprising appearance in the Club Nintendo comic Super Mario: Mario im Wunderland, where he tells Mario, of all people, to go to the Crab wizard.
