The Warp Star is Kirby's primary mode of transportation in the Kirby series. It is a flying, star-shaped vehicle that travels at high speed, leaving a trail of star-shaped particles in it's wake. Kirby usually rides it when he needs to travel to places quickly, but it can be difficult to control and Kirby often ends up crash landing, destroying the Warp Star in the process. Warp Stars are white in their first incarnation in Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Pinball Land, and in Kirby's Dream Land 2, but are yellow in all others. Kirby just needs to hop on these stars to use them, moving to other areas faster than his normal walking speed.

Kirby series[]

In most of the Kirby games the Warp Star appears as an item that takes Kirby to other areas in a level or to secret areas. When Kirby grabs it he will automatically fly it to it's destination, often with a crash landing. Some Kirby mini games allow the player to control the Warp Star. In cutscenes Kirby often uses the Warp Star as a method of fast travel allowing him to get places quicker than by walking. Kirby's Air Ride is a racing game centered around the Warp Star and other similar vehicles, dubbed Air Ride Machines.

Super Smash Bros. series[]

The Warp Star appears in the Super Smash Bros. series as part of Kirby's stage intro, where he crash lands it onto the stage. Starting with Super Smash Bros. Melee it is also an item. When a fighter grabs the Warp Star they will hop aboard flying it into the sky before coming down with an explosion. The descent of the Warp Star can be controlled somewhat by holding the control stick in the direction one wants to land. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl's story mode: The Subspace Emissary, Kirby uses the Warp Star twice in order to escape from an exploding Subspace Bomb. Once with Princess Peach or Princess Zelda in tow (depending on which one the player rescued from Petey Piranha earlier) and the second time with Link and Pit hitching a ride. The following are the trophy descriptions for the Warp Star:

Super Smash Bros. Melee

"The Warp Star originated as Kirby's ride: it helped the ponderous puffball get around at high speed. Hop on the Warp Star in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and your character will rapidly launch up and off the screen. You'll return in a flash, causing an explosion as you hit the ground. Try holding a direction to alter your landing."

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

"A warp-speed item. In the Kirby series, Warp Stars are used to move between stages. In Smash Bros., they're ultrafast attack items that zoom up and down to devastate anyone they hit. You can shift your landing spot by moving the Control Stick left or right during your descent. Choose your target and hang on! Don't overshoot the mark and plummet off the stage, though."

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'

In the World of Light trailer & intro, Kirby pushes his warp star to its limit, to the point of warping in order to not get killed by Galeem's murderous beams of light.
