Episode 1
Seeker of the Legendary Knife
Vida: Hellooooo! Is anyone hooooome? Just a friendly passing thief heeeeere!
Euden: Well, that's...odd. Why would a thief introduce herself AS a thie—
Vida: Ooo! You must be the famous Prince Euden, right?!
Euden: That's me. But who are y—
Vida: You're the one who makes pacts with dragons!
Euden: Also me. But what's your nam—
Vida: Wow! I'm seriously meeting the real thing! I mean, you're like a hero from one of the great legends!
Euden: Can we get back to your nam—
Vida: This is brilliant! I'm witnessing history in the making! Legends and myths are born from the actions of real people doing real things, and the proof is STANDING RIGHT HERE!
Euden: Do I even need to take part in this conversation, or...?
Vida: Ah! Right. Sorry. Got carried away. I sorta do that a lot. ...If you can't tell. ...Which you probably can. ...'Cause I'm doing it again right now.
Euden: Ooo-kay? Well then, let's maybe start with who you are and what you're doing here.
Vida: Right! Intros! Okay, so my name's Vida, and I've come to steal something from your castle.
Euden: Sorry, what?!
Vida: Yep! Ol' sticky-fingers here to nick something from your humble home.
Euden: Telling someone you're going to steal from them seems like a terrible strategy. I'm...actually not sure what to do here. I mean, no sane person would welcome a self-professed thief into their home. Also, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but this castle doesn't actually have much of value inside it.
Vida: Ha ha ha! Oh, I'm not in it for the rupies. I'm actually after a fabled artifact. It's a legendary knife that I read about in some old texts. It was used by a famous hero, and it's really, really, REEEEALLY strong.
Euden: First I've heard of it.
Vida: Ever since the day I learned of it, I've been searching high and low for the castle where it's said to reside... And this castle looks EXACTLY like it! Anyway, that's why I'm here. So please let me skulk about your castle! Pleeeeeease? I'll do anything!
Euden: You're the first thief I've ever met who's asked permission before they steal something. Still, a legendary knife used by a famous hero DOES sound intriguing... All right. You have my attention. Go on in and take a look. I'll let the others know to expect you.
Vida: Brilliant, you are the BEST!
Euden: Well, she's certainly enthusiastic. ...Though Cleo probably isn't going to be happy about this. Still, I really hope she finds the knife. I'd love to see it for myself.
Episode 2
Lockpick Elation
Vida: Well, today was another unsuccessful day of rummaging... I STILL can't find that knife.
Euden: That's a shame. Also, you look exhausted.
Vida: That's 'cause I've been looking for days! Why can't I find the bloody thing?!
Euden: Well, this castle is pretty big. Besides, you can't expect to find something legendary that easily.
Vida: Yeah, I guess. Oh, but did you know there's another really annoying thing about this castle besides how big it is?
Euden: What's that?
Vida: There are no treasure chests ANYWHERE! I can't even find a vault or a hidden door or ANYTHING! Castles ALWAYS have that stuff, you know? It's like a rule or something. I spent ages learning how to pick locks, but I haven't even had a chance to put my skills to good use! It just isn't fair.
Euden: You sound pretty dedicated.
Vida: My dream has always been to stumble on a secret door, pick its lock, and find a looong staircase that leads underground. Then I sneak through the passageway, dodge all the traps like a master ninja and find a treasure chest! Trembling with anticipation, I reach out for the lock and geeently insert my lockpick... Anyway, that's the idea. But turns out reality is A MASSIVE BLOODY BORE! Why did you build such a rubbish castle in the first place?
Euden: I didn't build this castle. I just sort of... moved in. But it's incredibly old, so I'm guessing you'll probably find more broken locks than working ones here.
Vida: Exactly! Rubbish! It's so dull, I've actually started to fix all your dodgy locks. And that is very much the OPPOSITE OF WHAT I IMAGINED WHEN I CAME HERE!
Euden: Wow, Vida. That's actually really helpful. Thank you.
Vida: Aw, you've gone and made me blush... Wait! Don't distract me with your sultry gaze and honeyed words, mister! I wanna PICK locks, not FIX them! Ugh. Seriously, what kind of legendary castle doesn't have a single hidden door?
Ranzal: There ya are, Vida! Hey, I kinda broke the lock on my room when I was... Well, it's a long story. Think ya might swing by and fix it?
Vida: I'm a THIEF! Not a locksmith! ...Fine. If that's how it's going to be, I'll just fix every lock in this whole rubbish castle!
Episode 3
Thinking Inside the Chest
Vida: Crumbling walls? Check. Moss-covered stone? Check. Dimly lit stone corridors leading into the great unknown? Check aaaaand check! Now THIS is what I'm talking about. This is the adventure I dreamed of!
Euden: You look like you're having a surprising amount of fun given where we are.
Elisanne: I've never seen someone so excited to be in such a foreboding place. Aren't you the least bit afraid to be here?
Vida: Nope! No fear. Just the thrill of... ADVENTURE! I feel like I've made my way into one of the legends of old. We're going to make our way to the depths of this ruin and find a treasure chest... WITH the legendary knife inside! Aaaaaaah! I am beyond chuffed! C'mooooon, Euden! We've gotta keep moving! Augh! Look! Chest! A proper treasure chest!
Euden: Oh wow. That one's fancy.
Vida: All right, I'm all fired up. Time to use my lockpicking skills to actually pick a lock!
Euden: Vida, wait! There's a fiend!
Vida: Guess it's here to guard the chest, huh? But if you think I'm gonna back down now, you blasted fiend, you've got another thing coming!
Elisanne: She dodged the blow! ...Impressive.
Vida: Now take THIS!
Euden: Not a chance!
Vida: Okay! Now you guys hold that thing off while I open the chest!
Euden: Hold it off? No! Help us with the fiend, THEN open the... She's totally not listening to me, is she?
Vida: ...Ooooh, I see what kind of lock this is. Easy-peasy! First I need to do thiiis...
Elisanne: Vida! H-hurry!
Vida: Then I need to do this, and... Ah! I did it! It opened, it opened, it opeeeeened! ...Oh, are you SERIOUS?! It's crammed full of GEMS! Rubbish gems! Why can't you be a legendary knife?!
Euden: Um, if you're finished over there, maybe you can help us out?
Vida: Ah! Sorry! Got distracted by the chest. I'm on my wa— OH MY GOSH, THERE'S ANOTHER CHEST! Look at the lock on THIS one. This is gonna take a while...
Together: VIDAAAAAA!
Episode 4
The Stuff of Legends
Vida: Hmm... So if I do this... And then thiiiis...
Euden: That's quite the tiny treasure chest you have there. Where did you find it?
Vida: It was hanging out in a corner of the castle. Looks pretty ancient, huh? And if it's THAT old, there's a good chance the knife I'm looking for is inside! Right, now I just need to raise the spring like this aaaaand... Wooop! Unlocked!
Euden: Hey, you did it! So what's inside?
Vida: Hee hee! I'm SURE it's the knife! Lemme just lift the lid aaaand... Oh, come on! Gold coins?! Boo! BOOOOOO!
Euden: These are really old, Vida. I bet they're worth quite a bit of money.
Vida: Pffft. Whatever. Money can't buy me the legendary knife.
Euden: Why ARE you so devoted to finding that knife, anyway?
Vida: As a kid, I always loved reading old stories and legends, y'know? And my favorite was about a legendary hero who fought using a knife. He was suuuuper cool. Over time, his knife became just as famous as he was. And ever since, I've dreamed of finding his knife and becoming a legend myself!
Euden: So your dream is really more about BECOMING a legend. The knife is just a means to that end. Surely you don't need a knife to become legendary, right? I mean, there must be other ways to have your name live on than by finding a weapon someone else used to wield.
Vida: You make it sound like just ANYBODY can up and become a legend. If you want to stand out from the pack, you need to find or do something amazing!
Euden: Still, isn't it for future generations to decide if something is fit to become a legend or not? Take this castle, for instance. It might be legendary now, but at the time it was built, it was likely just a castle like any other. Those coins you found were probably just hidden by someone who didn't want them to be stolen. The people in those days weren't out to become legends. They were just living their lives as we do. It sounds like the knife you're searching for only became legendary because that hero happened to use it. To him, it was just a tool he fought with, like any other weapon.
Vida: Well, I suppoooose you've got a point... Yeah, okay. That's super fair. I guess legends only become that way because people continue to talk about 'em even after they're gone. So I just need to cram everything I can into my life so folks can't shut up about how bloody amazing I was! All right! My goal is set! I'm going to become the legendary thief who supported the pactbound prince!
Euden: Wait, you're planning on becoming a legend with me now? Er, well, I guess it's good to have a goal...
Vida: Hee hee. It sure is! Just you watch, Euden! I'm going to become a legend by your side!
Episode 5
Vida Dreams Big
Weapon Dealer: Step right up and check out my wares! I've got swords! Lances! Knives! Maces! More weapons than you can shake a stick at—and I ALSO sell sticks!
Vida: Ooo, look! A weapon dealer! Mind if I go take a gander, Euden?!
Euden: Help yourself. We don't have anything urgent that needs doi—
Vida: Hey! Weapon guy! Show me what ya got!
Euden: ...Did she even wait for me to respond?
Vida: Oh man, look at all these knives! Maybe the legendary knife is HERE! ...That would be kinda weird, actually. ...But maybe it is ANYWAY!
Euden: Surely you're not going to stumble upon a legendary weapon in a merchant's wares.
Vida: Oh, this wouldn't be the first time. There are plenty of tales that start like that. Oooh, this knife looks like a Chanzelian antique. The design on it is beautiful. ...Wait a second. This is the work of the infamous blacksmith Strohn! Just look at the refined design and the keen edge of the blade... Oh man, my heart is all aflutter!
Euden: You're really knowledgeable about this stuff, Vida.
Vida: Sure, but I have to be! A thief like me can't be accidentally stealing fakes, or else I'd be the laughing stock of Thieftown! ...That's not a real place, by the way. ...Still, while this knife IS awesome, the legendary one isn't here. *sigh*
Euden: Well, you can't have everything. Besides, I thought you decided that you didn't need the knife anymore. What happened to making your own legend?
Vida: Hey, I didn't want the knife JUST to become a legend, you know? It's always been a dream of mine to find it, and that's never going to change.
Euden: So they're just separate dreams now?
Vida: Something like that, yeah. One day I'll find that knife, and people all over the land will know the name of Vida, the famous dual-knife wielder! I'll become so well known that my exploits will live on long after I'm gone. And then the knife I'm using right now will become just as legendary as the one I'm looking for! See? I've got this all worked out.
Euden: Heh. That's quite the grand dream. But with your determination, I'm sure you'll be able to make it come true.
