Romaji: Veronika) appears as an antagonist of Fire Emblem Heroesand a young princess of the Emblian Empire, seeking to eradicate the Askr Kingdom by influencing heroes from other worlds. She also appears in Fire Emblem Engage as a DLC Emblem Bracelet, and in Dragalia Lost as a playable unit as part of the Fire Emblem: Lost Heroes event.
Veronica is the daughter of the former emperor and his first wife. She has an older half-brother named Bruno, who was forced to leave Embla as a young boy.
Veronica was added to the second Choose Your Legends survey, which she also placed second in. Her Brave Veronica form, from an alternate world, depicts her around a year or two older than her story incarnation.
Book I[]
Veronica invades the realms of other worlds, putting their heroes into contracts in order to invade Askr. Xander continues to align with her even after his contract is broken. She uses previous heroes to serve as distraction while she tries to destroy the summoning ruins and render Kiran powerless. However, she is defeated and forced to retreat.
Book II[]
Veronica aligns herself with the kingdom of Múspell against Askr, though she does not fully trust Surtr. When the aforementioned leader plans to burn Askr to ashes, Veronica disagrees, wanting to conquer Askr instead. She and Xander prepare to fight Surtr, but Loki intervenes.
Later, Surtr forces Veronica to come to Múspell after Surtr defeats Xander. She is imprisoned with Ylgr in Surtr's castle. Helbindi arrives and rescues the two of them, holding Surtr off while the two escape. The two are recaptured by Laevatein, but Bruno makes it in time and saves them, informing Veronica that Xander is safe.
Book III[]
Veronica and Embla work with Askr to repel Hel's invasion. She and the Order of Heroes enter an alternate Embla, where Veronica discovers a text that discusses a rite involving the heart of Angrboða. This rite could kill Hel, but it would also kill everyone else in the world, beating until all are dead. Veronica reasons that since the rite was performed in the alternate realm, the heart should be nearby and less dangerous to use against Hel.
In addition, one of Hel's generals, Thrasir, is revealed to be a version of Veronica from an alternate world where all of her friends and family died.
Book IV[]
Veronica makes another temporary alliance with Askr while searching for Bruno and Xander. They encounter what appears to be the two men, but Alfonse reveals them to be illusions. Later on, Veronica helps persuade Mirabilis to help the group enter Dökkálfheimr. When Triandra sends nightmares to stop them, Veronica stays behind to fend them off so the rest of the group can enter the realm.
Book V[]
Veronica makes a brief appearance in Book V when Embla is invaded by Fáfnir and his army.
Book VI[]
Veronica and the Order of Heroes are investigating disappearing villages near the Embla-Askr border. They discover Elm, who has been closing the villages off, who tells them the curse of Embla's blood is taking effect. Veronica begins to hear a voice telling her to kill the Askr bloodline, but not wanting to attack them, she flees, encountering her relative Letizia. Letizia then informs Veronica that she is actually framing her for treason as revenge for Veronica's father usurping Letizia's family.
While in prison, the guards ask if she truly is guilty. She says she isn't, but tells them to ask Letizia for her version of events. Eventually, the majority of Embla's residents believe Veronica over Letizia, and the guards free her. After marching on the throne, Veronica spares Letizia, but she refuses to work with her and is possessed by Embla. Following the battle, Embla tries to make Letizia land the killing blow on Veronica, but Letizia instead kills herself.
Later on, Bruno confronts Embla and is possessed by her. He is forced to fight the Order of Heroes and loses his life in the process, but it is revealed that he had given Xander the Yggdrasil Key, which Xander gave to Veronica, allowing her to free herself from Embla's curse.
Fire Emblem Engage[]
Veronica appears in the Bracelet of the Lonely Heir, one of the DLC Engage Bracelets in Fire Emblem Engage. Her special skill Summon Hero allows her to summon an extra unit for the user, which can include other Emblems.
In the Fell Xenologue, Veronica's bracelet is owned by Brodia, which they relinquish to Alear and Nel after a battle. The bracelet is later used in the final battle at the fallen Somniel. In both battles, Veronica's bracelet is used by Diamant.
Personality[]
Veronica is a cold leader who, while determined to carry out her father's dream, carries loneliness within her. She has both childish and violent tendencies, holding tea parties while also threatening to pop people's heads off. Such violent tendencies can likely be attributed to the blood of Embla. Despite this, she has a sense of compassion, opposing Surtr's plans to completely destroy Askr when she simply wants it conquered. She has a few strong bonds, with her brother Bruno, the hero Xander, and her "sissy" Letizia. While she initially opposes Askr and its heroes, she begins to warm up to them over the course of the game, ending Book VI by having a tea party with Sharena.
Shortly after the release of Fire Emblem Heroes, a wig and an outfit of Veronica both of which come in a set of colors were made available from February 3rd to March 2nd, 2017.
Veronica appears as a playable adventurer in Dragalia Lost as part of the Fire Emblem: Lost Heroes event, alongside Alfonse, Marth, and Fjorm.
In the event, Veronica is battling Alfonse, Fjorm, and Marth when suddenly they are transported to Grastaea after Loki mixes the powers of the gates with a Grastaean otherworld fragment. Someone who appears to be Veronica is first seen commanding unknown forces. She battles Euden and his forces, but loses.
When Alfonse wakes up, he finds Veronica being pursued by Dyrenell soldiers. He defeats the soldiers, but finds that Veronica has lost her memory. They flee the soldiers and encounter Euden, Luca, Ranzal, and Elisanne, who recognize her from before. Believing Euden to be hostile, Alfonse tells Veronica to run and he duels Euden until Fjorm arrives and informs the Alberians that she, Alfonse, and Veronica are from a different world. She tells them that the Veronica they fought before was in fact Loki in disguise. The two princes agree to join forces.
After waiting for Alfonse to arrive, a woman guides Veronica to a nearby village, which Marth is defending. However, Loki arrives and tells Veronica that Alfonse sacrificed himself to save her and is currently locked in a dungeon. She tells Veronica that she can restore her memories if she accompanies her, and despite Marth's protests, she agrees. Shortly after, Alfonse and Euden arrive to the village and join with Marth.
At the Dyrenell fortress, Loki and Harle tell Veronica that they can restore her memories, but only if she agrees to receive black mana power. Alfonse and Euden's parties arrive, but Veronica has already received the mana. Euden suspects they can return her to her senses by battling and exhausting her supply of black mana. Following the fight, Veronica is returned to her senses and regains her memory. Loki and Harle inform the party that the village Marth had lodged in is currently undefended. Veronica begins to leave by herself, but Alfonse reminds her that they are in a world where Askr and Embla do not exist, and the two form a temporary truce.
After noticing several tears in the otherworld, Loki informs them that Alfonse's power to open gates and Veronica's to close them cannot be sustained in Grastaea, telling them that one must disappear for the world to survive. Veronica ponders killing Alfonse, but Euden recounts a story from a thousand years ago about a gateway to another world that a demon was summoned from. While researching, Veronica discovers an ancient text that mentions Askr, where scientists connected to another world but were only briefly able to speak to an Askran. They make their way to the gateway and Alfonse realizes he can open it, but Loki and Harle arrive intent on destroying it. The party successfully repels the Dyrenells and reopens the gateway, and Alfonse says goodbye to the Alberians before he and the others return to Askr.

Episode 1
The Cold-Hearted Princess
Euden: Welcome to the Halidom, Princess. Please make yourself at home.
Veronica: ......
Emblian Princess - Veronica
Cleo: Your room will be just over there. Do you have any other questions?
Veronica: You're Heroes from another world, so why can't I make a contract with you?
Euden: Er, sorry?
Veronica: Why won't you become mine? ...Bah. I'm bored already.
Cleo: Oh, wait! We still haven't explained the communal...space... And she's gone.
Euden: Well, she's a barrel of laughs. But she's going to be living here for a while, so we'll just have to find a way for all of us to get along.
Veronica: ......
Elisanne: Greetings, Veronica. If you have come here in search of a sparring partner, I would be happy to oblige you.
Veronica: Not interested.
Elisanne: Oh! Well...all right.
Cleo: Are you feeling hungry, Veronica? I just finished making stew.
Veronica: I'm fine.
Cleo: Er, fair enough...
Ranzal: Heeey, Veronica! Ya wanna head into town and get some grub? My treat!
Veronica: Leave me alone.
Euden: *sigh* This is proving surprisingly difficult.
Ranzal: I know! Every time we ask her to do somethin', we get the cold shoulder.
Luca: She's the exact opposite of Sarisse. How in the world are we supposed to make friends with someone like that?!
Cleo: Additionally, she's always in her room, which means I'm never able to clean—
Elisanne: Bad news! A group of imperial soldiers is approaching the castle!
Euden: Get ready, everyone. We're moving out.
Veronica: Wait.
Euden: Er, what is it, Princess?
Veronica: I'm coming.
Euden: You're our guest. We can't ask you to fi—
Veronica: I'm bored. Let me come.
Euden: Well, all right. But please don't do anything that puts you in danger.
Imperial Soldier A: Your time has come, filthy criminals! Now you'll learn what happens when you make an enemy of the Dyrenell Empire!
Ranzal: Damn, there sure are a lot of 'em. Just hang back, Princess, yeah? We can protect ya better if yer... Uh oh.
Veronica: You're the enemy, right? So I can play with you until you break?
Imperial Soldier B: Huh? Get out of here, kid! You're gonna get yourself hurt.
Veronica: Are you threatening me? A shame. I think you need to die now.
Imperial Soldier B: Huh?! Hey, s-stop! STOOOOP!
Imperial Soldier A: Be you a child or not, no one gets away with treating the Empire like—AAAAARGH!
Veronica: Why so scared? You started this. Don't you want to be played with?
Imperial Soldier B: Eeeek! I don't wanna die! Mommyyyy!
Veronica: Broken already? Tsk! That's no fun. Guess it's time to finish this...
Euden: That's enough, Princess!
Veronica: Hmm?
Euden: They've lost the will to fight. If you keep hurting them, you're going to kill them.
Veronica: Isn't that the point?
Euden: We do not kill needlessly in this army. Now stop.
Veronica: ...Huh. Fine, then. Go away, you.
Imperial Soldiers A & B: EEEEEEK!
Veronica: I don't know why you stopped me. The Empire is your enemy. In Embla, we kill our enemies.
Euden: I understand that your world and ours have a number of differences. However, that's not how we do things here. Just because someone is our enemy doesn't give us the right to toy with them.
Veronica: Hmm...
Euden: So while you're with us, I'd prefer it if you...er...took it easy on the killing. Is that too much to ask?
Veronica: If you won't let me play with enemies, YOU have to play with me instead.
Euden: It's a promise on my end. What about you?
Veronica: Fine. Promise. I haven't made a promise like this in a long time. You people are strange.
Episode 2
Another Promise
Alfonse: The history between Askr and Embla is complicated to say the least. The former emperor of Embla sought to bring prosperity to his country by enslaving Heroes, as well as Askr itself. Several years ago, Princess Veronica suddenly declared her intention to follow in her father's footsteps and commenced a new invasion of Askr. My sister once said she might have done it because she was lonely, but I don't know the truth of it.
Euden: Thank you for telling me all of that. I actually think your sister might not be too far off the mark. Yes, she tried to kill those soldiers, but she doesn't strike me as a bad person, per se. I think she just doesn't know how to make friends.
Alfonse: Many of us have long suspected the same.
Cleo: Oh no! Veronica!
Alfonse: I fear something ill may have occurred. Come, Prince! We must make haste!
Veronica: ......
Euden: Okay, what's going on?
Cleo: I came to Veronica's room in the vain hope of finally cleaning it and found her lying motionless on the floor.
Luca: Well, she's still breathin' at least. ...Heeey! Can you heeeear me?!
Veronica: ...ry...
Luca: Hmm? What was that?
Veronica: ...Hungry.
Together: What?!
Veronica: ...I'm full now.
Cleo: I'm glad to hear that. But what possessed you to starve yourself for so long?
Veronica: No one brought food to my room.
Luca: What?! Wait, no. Needs more surprise. ...WHAAAAT?!
Veronica: Food always appears in my room at home. It never did here. Eventually, I was too hungry to move.
Euden: Ah, I get it. Back in Embla, you have servants who bring you food.
Cleo: *sigh* I thought I was being considerate by leaving her alone to her own devices, but if I had gone in earlier, none of this would have happened.
Alfonse: Please do not blame yourself, Cleo. If Princess Veronica was hungry, she had but to tell us so. It's all right to rely on us, Princess, just as you did during the time when you lost your memory.
Veronica: No. We're not fighting now, but I won't owe anything to the prince of another country.
Euden: Listen, Veronica...
Veronica: What?
Euden: There are all kinds of people here in this castle, from lots of different classes and backgrounds. But even so, we all have one thing in common... We're all friends. I'm not a prince or a title. I am Euden, just as you're Veronica.
Veronica: Why would you choose not to be a prince? That's strange. You're strange. Stranger than any of the Heroes I've met from other worlds.
Luca: Oh, he's a strange one, all right. But he's just tryin' to tell you it's okay to be free and live life how you want. That might've been hard to do back home, but so long as you're in our world, just put all that royalty stuff out of your head and try to be our friend! That's what I want, anyway! You're kinda like a little sister I want to help out.
Veronica: Is there anyone normal in this castle?
Alfonse: I am with them in this, Princess Veronica. This is neither Askr nor Embla. And until we find a way back home, we're all after the same thing.
Veronica: I... All right. I'll try to be...friends. But only since it's temporary.
Luca: Hot damn! Let's shake on it!
Veronica: Ow. Let go. You're hurting me.
Luca: Ack! Sorry! I did it the same way I shake hands with my sister, and she's kind of a beast. ...How's this?
Veronica: Better.
Luca: Really? Good!
Veronica: You're strange AND naive. What a troublesome bunch. But a promise is a promise. I'll keep it. That's what my brother once taught me...
Episode 3
Brotherly Love
Marth: There you are; all clean. It is a great boon to have such fine horses.
Horses: Neeeigh!
Marth: Now I just need to give them all a good brushing and I can... Hmm?
Veronica: ......
Marth: What is it, Princess Veronica?
Veronica: You have horses. Can I ride one?
Marth: Certainly. Shall I teach you how?
Veronica: I know how.
Marth: I see. Did you grow up riding horses?
Veronica: I had two people who taught me to ride. One was my older brother. I haven't seen him in a while. I wonder where he is...
Marth: ...This happened a little while ago. She seemed quite lonely as she spoke of her brother—he must have been a very lovely person.
Luca: Huh. I always thought she seemed like a little sister, but I didn't know she really WAS someone's little sister.
Euden: It's no surprise she'd be lonely if she hasn't seen her sibling in a while. I know exactly how that feels.
Luca: Think we can do something to take her mind off it? I mean, we're both older brothers, yeah? And while we can't be her family, we can at least try and help her have fun.
Euden: I suppose we DID just promise to all be friends...
Luca: Great! Then let's invite her somewhere.
Veronica: Why did you bring me outside?
Luca: 'Cause I wanted to show you all the rare animals that live deep inside the forest! There are loads of cute critters here. ...Hey, look! There's some now!
Squirrel: Squeak!
Deer: Bleeeeat!
Bird: Tweet tweet!
Luca: D'aw! You gotta love 'em, right?
Veronica: Not interested.
Luca: Whaaat?! Oh man, that's weird. Sarisse would have been freakin' out if I showed her a bunch of cute animals.
Veronica: And now it's your turn? What are you trying to do?
Euden: You always have a book with you, so I thought I'd read you one of my favorite stories.
Veronica: Reading is okay, I guess. But I mostly read magical grimoires.
Euden: Good enough! See, writing stories is sort of a hobby of mine, so I thought I'd share my latest work with you. It's called "The Prince of a Lost Country and the Swindled—"
Veronica: Not interested.
Euden: R-really? Gee, Zethia always loved it when I read to her...
Luca: Okay, I don't get how to do this at ALL! It's like little sisters have become a total mystery to me!
Euden: What are we doing wrong?
Alfonse: What's going on, you two? You both look terribly depressed.
Luca: Well, Veronica was feelin' low after being separated from her brother, so we were tryin' to cheer her up.
Euden: But nothing we do makes her happy at all. Maybe we're both failures as brothers.
Veronica: Is that what you've been doing? You can stop doing it now. You'll never take my brother's place.
Luca: Wait, Alfonse! You're ALSO an older brother, right? Because in that case, it's time for a Triple Brother Offensive!
Alfonse: It's true that my sister is younger than I, but... Er... Well, perhaps we could go to town and shop for dresses or sweets.
Veronica: Don't need any. Listen to me. I miss my brother. It makes me sad and lonely. But I don't want any of you to try and take his place.
Luca: But if you're sad, what can it hurt?
Veronica: Because while I'm here, I'm just Veronica. Not a princess or a sister—just Veronica. That's what you said.
Euden: ...You remembered.
Veronica: Of course I did. So was it a lie?
Luca: What? No! Of course not! Ha ha ha! Still, I guess you see us as friends more than we thought, huh?
Veronica: Why do you assume that?
Alfonse: Heh. I believe they're just glad you remembered your promise.
Veronica: Oh. Huh. Don't worry. So long as I'm in this castle, I'll keep my promises.
Euden: We believe you, Veronica.
Luca: Well, we might not be able to become your brothers, but we can still have fun!
Episode 4
Second Thoughts
Veronica: What a nice night. I should go for a walk. Hmm. I guess everyone is asleep. There's no one he... Ah! That looked like my brother! Wait! Come back!
Veronica: *pant* *pant* I can't find him anywhere... Were my eyes playing tricks?
???: Might I have a moment of your time, Your Highness?
Veronica: I know you.
Harle: You certainly do! I am Harle of the Dyrenell Empire, and I have come to escort you back with me.
Veronica: Why?
Harle: Because I know you grow weary of living with that goody-goody prince! Deep down, you are both brutal and cold— and you know it. The Empire is a far more fitting place for you to be.
Veronica: Not interested. Also, I'm tired. I'm going back now.
Harle: Well, that is a shame. But you really SHOULD reconsider, because I will use force if I must.
Veronica: Tsk. What a tedious man you are. I guess I'll do this the hard way.
Imperial Soldiers: Aaargh!
Veronica: Uh oh. They're in a LOT of pain. You should probably go now.
Harle: Well, THIS is strange! I heard tale upon tale of the merciless princess of Embla who killed anyone she deemed her enemy. Heavens, you aren't HOLDING BACK, are you? If you consider us enemies, you really should try to kill us.
Veronica: You are the castle's enemy... but I won't kill you.
Harle: Whyever not?
Veronica: Because I promised the prince to be friends while I was here.
Harle: Aaaah ha ha ha! Friends? FRIENDS?! Simply unbelievable! Aaaah ha ha!
Veronica: What's so funny?
Harle: Hoooo! Friends! Oh, goodness me. Well, I mean, you don't honestly TRUST these people, do you? To you, they're just Heroes from another realm—and I've heard plenty about how such relationships usually end with you: They turn their backs and betray you! When the same thing happens this time, I imagine you will be so very sad.
Veronica: I...
Harle: That's why you should come with us to the Empire. Shared goals won't betray you like "friends" will—a fact you know well. And if you decide to kill them before they manage to betray you, know that you have the Empire's complete and full support.
Veronica: ......
Euden: Veronicaaa! Where aaaaare you?!
Veronica: That's the prince.
Harle: Bah. I see we are out of time. Very well, I will withdraw for today. But I look forward to an answer you won't regret when we next meet, Your Highness. Until then...farewell!
Euden: *pant* There you are, Veronica! Thank goodness you're safe!
Luca: What'd you wander off all alone for? If you wanted to take in the night air, we'd have been happy to tag along.
Veronica: What are you doing here?
Luca: We couldn't find you anywhere and got worried. It's dangerous around here at night, you know? Still, you're okay, and that's what matters. So, um, you wanna keep walkin'? I could come with you.
Euden: The stars ARE lovely tonight. Still, if you want to go on night walks in the future, Veronica, please let one of us know so we don't worry. Okay?
Veronica: The future... Okay.
Luca: It's settled. ...Now gimme your hand. I'm gonna make sure you don't get lost on the way back to the castle.
Veronica: No. I'm not a child. Trust... Shared goals... I don't know what to do...
Euden: Did you say something, Veronica?
Veronica: No. And stop holding out your hand. I'm fine on my own.
Veronica: ...What should I do?
Episode 5
Keeping Promises
Veronica: Who's making all that noise at this time of night? I can't sleep! ...Hmm. No one there. Did they go outside?
Alfonse: Princess Veronica! Quickly, come with me!
Veronica: Alfonse?
Alfonse: Someone wishes to speak with you. Let us make haste!
Veronica: Stop tugging me!
Alfonse: There he is.
Harle: Good evening, Your Highness. I've come to collect you, as agreed.
Veronica: You! I made no such arrangement. And Alfonse, why... Ah. You're Loki.
Alfonse?: Oh, fiddlesticks! I should have known my disguise wouldn't last long against you. And here I was hoping your loathing for Alfonse would cloud your judgment.
Loki: It seems you two have grown closer than I was expecting. How charming!
Harle: We tried it your way, Loki—now we will try it mine. Come here, Princess, or I will be forced to... Hmm?
Euden: Hold it right there!
Alfonse: What are you doing in this... Er, Princess Veronica?
Harle: Tsk! MUST I be thwarted at every turn by this pack of pathetic do-gooders?!
Loki: Ah, but this is actually the PERFECT time for them to arrive, because now we have both princes sitting in front of us!
Harle: Oh ho! Loki, you ARE a sly devil. Indeed, this is a wonderful opportunity to help Her Highness realize the truth of her feelings.
Euden: Get away from her!
Harle: You must slaughter the both of them, Your Highness. Before they can betray you.
Veronica: Quiet. I have no intention of killing them at the moment.
Loki: But killing them would be such FUN! Come now, let us see just a teeensy glimpse of your amazing power. Why hold back? Heed the whispers of your heart, dear.
???: Kill.
Veronica: Ah!
???: Askr must be destroyed!
Veronica: Ugh... Urrghh... Aaaaagh!
Euden: Veronica, wait! What are you doing?!
Harle: Aaaah ha ha! Oh, what naive fools you are! She's been secretly wanting to kill you before you abandon her—and she's wanted to do it this ENTIRE time! Oh, what cruelty from such a sweet, innocent soul! Now go, my darling! Slay them with your own two hands!
Alfonse: Princess Veronica!
Veronica: Brother... I... Promise... Aaargh!
Loki: Don't stop NOW! Kill them already!
Veronica: I promised...not to.
Loki: Oh for heaven's sake! You might try to ignore your primal instinct for the sake of some sappy promise, but how long can you REALLY hold out?
Veronica: As long as I need to...
Harle: But WHY?!
Veronica: Because I'm Veronica. Not a princess—just Veronica. So I'll keep my promise...for now.
Together: Ah!
Loki: *sigh* Well, this is a TERRIBLE bore!
Harle: I couldn't agree more. I had thought her more wise than this, but I see we have been wasting our time. Let us be off.
Loki: No matter what happens here, know that tragedy WILL occur when you finally return to your home world. And I look forward to being VEEERY entertained by it. Tee hee hee hee!
Luca: Heeeeey! Are you two okay? ...Whoa, what's up, Veronica? You're super pale!
Cleo: I will attend to her at once. But what happened to Harle and Loki?
Euden: Veronica drove them away.
Alfonse: Thank you, Princess Veronica. Thank you for keeping your word.
Veronica: I didn't do anything.
Euden: That's not true. You did great—and we were all happy to see that what we said left such a mark on you.
Cleo: Such praise from the prince is quite exceptional. To celebrate, what would you like me to make for dinner?
Luca: Hey, I want in on this praising action! C'mere, kid! I'm gonna give you a Luca Head-Rub Special!
Veronica: Don't treat me like a child.
Euden: Ha ha! Don't be too harsh on him. He's just trying to make you happy. I'm sure your brother would be happy if he was here, but we at least want to praise you in his stead.
Veronica: Stop trying to replace him! *sigh* You really are a strange bunch. I don't know how to deal with you. But...maybe it's okay once in a while.
