An untitled live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda was announced on November 7, 2023. The film will be directed by Wes Ball and produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and film producer Avi Arad and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.[2] It was originally scheduled to be released on March 26, 2027, but was delayed to May 7. On July 16, 2025, Nintendo announced the actors for Link and Princess Zelda, which are portrayed by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason.

- Although the casting had not been announced, Patricia Summersett, Princess Zelda's voice actress in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, said that she would like to reprise her role for the character.[3] Hunter Schafer of Euphoria fame has also expressed interest in playing the character.[4]
- It will be the third (second if Pokémon is excluded) live-action film of a Nintendo property, after 1993's Super Mario Bros. film and Detective Pikachu. It will be their fifth one overall, excluding the animated Pokémon films.
- This will be the first major collaboration between Nintendo and Sony.
- The two previously partnered for the Nintendo PlayStation prototype add-on, which ultimately became Sony's console.
- PlayStation Studios' MLB The Show 23 was released on Nintendo Switch in 2023.
- A rejected pitch for an animated The Legend of Zelda film was developed by Imagi Animation Studios (closed in 2010).[5]
- Some of Avi Arad's works include Uncharted, various Marvel films (notably Spider-Man, Hulk and Fantastic Four) and an upcoming Naruto film.
- Wes Ball directed The Maze Runner and Kingdom for the Planet of the Apes films.
- Rumors have emerged that Illumination (The Super Mario Bros. Movie) was developing an animated film of the The Legend of Zelda series; this was later denied by CEO Chris Meledandri.
- A live-action The Legend of Zelda series, along with a stop-motion Star Fox series, were planned for Netflix. Both were canceled after leaks had surfaced.
- The movie's release date was the first announcement to originate from the Nintendo Today! app.
