Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late [cl-r] is a fighting game by French Bread released on the Nintendo Switch in February 2020. This is the 4th iteration of the game though the first on Nintendo platforms.
Gameplay
The game is a 2D fighter in the same vein as BlazBlue and Guilty Gear. The game is a one-on-one match trying to reduce the opponents vitality to 0. The controls are built around the 4 face buttons. The player can trigger special moves by pressing certain combinations of buttons. The super moves utilize the EXS gauge that fills up when an attack lands. One of the super moves only uses a portion of the gauge, but a full gauge will let the player perform a Infinite Worth. Players can also activate a technique called Veil Off where the character does move damage and can use all their supers without draining the EXS gauge directly.
The 4th face button is mainly for the Grind Grid mechanic which acts like a sort of tug of war in which landing attacks and blocking the enemy's will reward more points while missing attacks, walking back and getting grabbed will reduce points. At the end of each cycle, the player with the most points gets a buffed state call Vorpal State that gives a small damage buff and some character specific traits. When combined with Veil Off, it turns into Cross-Cast Veil Off that enables chaining of super moves.
