Trace(JP) is a Pokémon ability introduced in the third generation.
Description[]
The ability holder copies the ability of an adjacent opponent. For the current generation, if the ability holder cannot activate its ability, the ability delays activation until something that can be copied. If the ability is Skill Swapped, it will activate at first opportunity even if the ability holder has activated Trace beforehand in the same battle.
Trace cannot be copied by Role Play (as of generation V), Power of Alchemy or Receiver. Entrainment will fail if used by the ability holder.
Unaffected Abilities[]
Trace generally cannot copy form changing abilities and abilities that abilities that change abilities. The following is a list of abilities that the ability holder cannot copy:
