Totodile (JP) is a species of Pokémon in the series of the same name. It is a Water-type Pokémon that made its first appearance in the second generation games Gold and Silver. It evolves into Croconaw starting at level 18. It is one of the First partner Pokémon for the Johto region.
Physiology and Behavior[]
Totodile is a bipedal, crocodilian Pokémon with well-developed jaws. It has red eyes with ridges above them, black markings around its eyes, and several sharp teeth. On its chest is a yellow, V-shaped marking that extends to its arms; there is a thin line through the center of the marking. Totodile has five fingers and three toes. Down its back is a row of three red spines with a small, red ridge on either side. The tip of its tail has a single red spine as well.
Totodile tends to be playful by nature and has a habit of biting anything it sees, including its Trainer. However, its jaws are capable of crushing anything, so it sometimes causes serious injuries. Totodile is scarce in the wild, though it can be found around bodies of water like rivers, ponds, and lakes.
Appearances[]
Main Pokémon games[]
Totodile was a First partner Pokémon in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon Crystal, and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Other Pokémon games[]
Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Totodile will sometimes come down on a rope to replace the Egg on the Ruby Field in place of Aerodactyl.
Super Smash Bros. series[]
Totodile was the only Generation II first partner Pokémon to appear only as a random trophy, not in a Poké Ball. Totodile appeared as a trophy in the GameCube video game Super Smash Bros. Melee and the Wii video game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The following are Totodile's trophy descriptions:
Trophy descriptions[]
Super Smash Bros. Melee
- "Little but feisty is the best description for these Water-type Pokémon. The first thing they do when they see something move is latch onto it with their powerful jaws. Totodile was one of the three Pokémon that Professor Elm offered to trainers in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. They evolve into Croconaw."
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- "A Big Jaw Pokemon. This alligator- like Pokemon stands on two legs. It has a small body but an impressive jaw that boasts potent bite power. It can do serious damage to someone even if it's just playing. Its tendency to chomp down on anything that moves in front of it means Trainers have to be extra cautious around it. When it levels up, it evolves into Croconaw."
In the anime[]
In The Totodile Duel, Ash Ketchum caught a Totodile after battling for ownership over him with Misty. Totodile, who had a very playful personality, remained with him throughout Ash's journey in the Johto region, before Ash left him in Professor Oak's lab while leaving for Hoenn.
