Tornadus (トルネロス, Tornelos) is a species of Pokémon in the series of the same name. It is a Flying legendary Pokémon that made its first appearance in the fifth generation games Black and White. Its one of the Forces of Nature along with Thundurus, Landorus and Enamorus.

Physiology and Behaviour[]

Appearances[]

Origin[]

In Incarnate Forme, Tornadus is based on Fūjin, the kami of wind. It may also have drawn some inspiration from Jinn. In Therian Forme, Tornadus is based on the Vermilion Bird.

In-game information[]

Pokédex entries[]

Title Entry
Fifth Pokémon generation
Pokémon Black The lower half of its body is wrapped in a cloud of energy. It zooms through the sky at 200 mph.
Pokémon White Tornadus expels massive energy from its tail, causing severe storms. Its power is great enough to blow houses away.
Pokémon Black 2 In every direction it flies, creating winds so powerful, they blow everything away.
Pokémon White 2 In every direction it flies, creating winds so powerful, they blow everything away.
Sixth Pokémon generation
Pokémon X The lower half of its body is wrapped in a cloud of energy. It zooms through the sky at 200 mph.
Pokémon Y Tornadus expels massive energy from its tail, causing severe storms. Its power is great enough to blow houses away.
Pokémon Omega Ruby The lower half of its body is wrapped in a cloud of energy. It zooms through the sky at 200 mph.
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Tornadus expels massive energy from its tail, causing severe storms. Its power is great enough to blow houses away.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus This storm-stirring Pokémon is said to cause the seasons to turn by whipping up the air. I suspect its humanlike form to be a false one.

Therian[]

Title Entry
Pokémon Legends: Arceus An example of what is known as a “form change,” though I suspect this strange avian guise to be Tornadus's true form. Tornadus has been sighted crossing the ocean while in this form.

Trivia[]

  • Tornadus is the first pure Flying-type Pokémon.
    • Due to being a pure Flying-type, Tornadus is the only Pokémon that can have the Flying-type backdrop in the Hall of Fame after defeating the Pokémon League in Pokémon Black and White and Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. This backdrop will always reflect the Pokémon's primary type, but all half-Flying-type Pokémon had Flying as their secondary type.
    • Tornadus is the only member of the Forces of Nature to be a single-type Pokémon.
  • When Tornadus appears on Route 7 in Pokémon Black, Thundurus's cry is heard.
  • In an interview with Nintendo Dream, Ken Sugimori revealed that Tornadus was originally intended to be colored red, to pair with Thundurus's blue. Tornadus's color was changed because the pair ended up looking too similar to Throh and Sawk.
