Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is a Nintendo 3DS launch title by Ubisoft and Ubisoft Sofia. It was originally in development for the Nintendo DS before being moved to the new handheld. It is a tactical turn-based game by the creators of X-Com, a video game series made popular on the PC.

Series veteran Julian Gollop, the creator of the game, claimed that most game developers "wouldn't touch" the tactical role-playing genre, though Ubisoft saw potential in it by making a turnbased game within the Ghost Recon franchise. Originally in development for the Nintendo DS, the game's platform was changed upon hearing about the New 3DS. Gollop says that the added 3D depth actually helps the player due to the battlefield and terrain being 3D polygons.
