"The Lost Lapras" is the 86th episode of Pokémon the Series. It was first broadcast in Japan on February 18, 1999, and in the United States on January 22, 2000. This episode is notable in that Ash Ketchum obtains a Lapras, and it is also the first appearance of Tracey Sketchit.

Plot[]

While exploring the island they crash-landed on, Ash and Misty discover a group of teenagers bullying a Lapras. Despite the bullies being driven away, the Lapras which is only a baby is refusing to let any humans near it and the pressure increases when Team Rocket arrive, intending to steal the Lapras, forcing Ash, Misty and their new friend, Tracey Sketchit, to give chase and save the Lapras before it's too late.

  • The episode's English dub title might be a reference to the film The Lost Letter.
  • Due to him staying behind at Professor Ivy's in the the last episode, this is the first episode since his debut where Brock doesn't appear, outside of a brief recap in the beginning.
  • Team Rocket's truck is using the left-wheel placement to drive on the right, but on most other episodes where wheeled transportation is seen, the opposite is used and transport drives on the left as in modern real Japan.
    • However, the Orange Islands may be not part of the country as the mainland is, because when Team Rocket offers the blimp to Ash and his friends in earlier episodes, baggage customs processing is mentioned by them in both ways of the flight.
  • This marks the only time a main character has been introduced outside of the first five episodes of their native series.
