The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy is a 1991 platform–adventure game for the NES, developed by Taito and based on the Hanna-Barbera animated television series The Flintstones.

Plot[]

Dr. Butler arrives from the future in a time machine, and kidnaps Dino and Hoppy before destroying Gazoo's time machine. Fred Flintstone must find the pieces for Gazoo's time machine and repair it in order to get Dino and Hoppy back.

Gameplay[]

Development[]

The game was announced to be in development alongside The Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper, with the intention of both games being released and tied together by one storyline;[1] however, The Jetsons game would ultimately come out a year after this. (This is why George Jetson has a cameo in this game's final stage; Fred was planned to have a similar cameo in Cogswell's Caper, the idea being that he arrives in the future during that game's events, but was ultimately cut.[2])

Reception[]

Legacy[]

This game received Internet fame in 2015 when Joel of the livestreaming group Vinesauce discovered and played Super Mario 7, also known as 7 Grand Dad, a 1992 ROM hack of this game that is mostly identical except that Fred's head is replaced with Mario's. (Coincidentally, Mario would officially dress in a caveman tunic in a Club Nintendo comic, which would be referenced through one of his costumes in Super Mario Odyssey.)
