Conduit XC2

The Conduit is an energy source taking the form of a glowing yellow latin cross in the Xenoblade series. It mainly appears in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 where it is seen to be behind the Architect's Room in the First Low Orbit Station.

The Conduit is defined as a "magnetic abnormal matter", which means that it basically creates an infinite amount of energy and serves as a connection between alternate realities and dimensions. The Conduit is also the power source of both the Aegises and the Artifices, which explains their incredible power.

History[]

The Conduit was originally found in Africa during the 21st century. After it was found, an institution was built around it in order to facilitate research. It's ability to connect to other dimensions was found and to prevent the danger this represented, an orbital ring with three orbit stations was built to protect it. Rhadamanthus became the station in which the Conduit was stored. In order to protect it, the Trinity Processor was built with three supercomputers as its core. These three computers would later become known as the Aegises. These AI were raised in VR as a personality was a requirement to control the Conduit. As a result, the three computers built their own defense systems completely independantly from human input. Those became the Artifices. Alongside the Aegises and their Artifices, a crew of humans including a man acting as the director of the orbital ring, and some scientists were seen working on the station and giving orders to the Trinity Processor.

The Conduit due to its nature as what is basically an infinite energy source started attracting the attention of a lot of various groups including the Saviorite Rebels. Sometime during the 21st century, those same Rebels attacked the orbital ring with unmatched strenght as war ravaged the Earth for the control of the Conduit. The director of the orbital ring decided to use Artifice Aion as a last resort but he was blocked by Klaus who used the Conduit to reshape the world in a deluded hope to change humanity. This sent most of what was left of humanity and their world to other worlds and the ones left behind in the Land of Morytha degenerated into Guldos due to the experimental state of the Core Crystal implents of the time. The only exception being Klaus who becomes split between two dimensions.

From that point on, the Conduit is technically the source of power of the Aegises seen in the story for of both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Millenia after the original experiment, the Conduit begins to stir once again as a reaction to the bond of Rex and Pneuma. The Architect start to predict that the Conduit would disappear alongside his own impending death. As Shulk kills zanza, the Architect dies as well and as a final act, he uses the Conduit to restore the world. The Conduit disappear in another dimension afterwards. As a result, all Artifices and the entire orbital ring stop working immediatly.

Trivia[]

    • The Conduit's assets are additionally labeled "Zohar" within the game files, a nod to this fact.
    • Due to this, it also ressemble the Lifehold Core from Xenoblade Chronicles X.
  • Despite being usually inaccessible, it is possible to enter the Conduit's room by exploiting a walk through walls glitch on the First Low Orbit Station.
