Team17 is a British game developer. They are most known for their work on the Worms series. In the past few years, they have expanded and started publishing digital games for indie developers.

History[]

Team17 started out as a company called 17-Bit Software, working on Amiga software. In 1990, a developer caled Team 7 approached 17-Bit to publish their game. The two combined into Team17 and published their first game, Full Contact for the Amiga. They also published games for other UK Amiga developers following their success. In 1995, they partnered with Ocean Software to co-publish their games worldwide. This partnership would lead to Worms, their biggest success. With Ocean, it was their first multiplatform release releasing for all major platforms at the time. With the Amiga dying as a platform, Team17 decided to stop publishing games themselves aside from the odd PC release.

During the 2000s, they collaborated with many publishers, getting Ubisoft and THQ to publish their retail Worms games and developing the odd port here and there. By 2010, they were back to working on more of their own titles and self-publishing games with digital platforms. With the success of Worms digitally, they branched out, publishing various indie titles including The Escapists, Overcooked and Yooka-Laylee.
