Nintendo

Superman (commonly known as Superman 64) is a game released onto the Nintendo 64, based largely upon the popular Kids' WB action series Superman: The Animated Series. It is widely infamous for its reputation as one of the worst video games ever made.

Plot[]

Lex Luthor has trapped Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, and Professor Hamilton in a virtual reality version of Metropolis, filled with "Kyptonite fog" (actually the game's poor draw distance) that he and Braniac have teamed up to create. It is up to Superman to rescue them... provided, of course, that he survive flying through all those rings Lex is making him fly through.

Glitches[]

  • Crabs killing Superman in one hit. In the Starship while the player is trying to get to the year 2000 the Y2K bug, there are crabs that can suddenly kill superman in one hit if the player isn't fast enough making it the hardest level.
  • In the Starship level if the player skips fighting Brainiac while deactivating the white beam will cause the game to freeze and crash. Make sure you fight Brainiac or the player will be unable to continue on with the game.

Development Issues[]

No more than halfway through development, support for the game was dropped entirely, forcing the game to be released largely incomplete. This led to an enormous amount of programming issues, hundreds of glitches, unfair puzzles, a lack of explanation for what is going on, and a horrible ending.

Later Game[]

A game released onto later consoles, known as Superman: Shadow of Apokolips achieved what Superman 64 had attempted to be.

Reception[]

Superman 64 has the reputation of being one of the worst games of all time, receiving negative reception.
