Super Famicom Wars is an Intelligent Systems developed video game published by Nintendo that was released exclusively on the Super Famicom's Satellaview service starting in May of 1998. It was the only Nintendo Wars video game released on the console, and was never released in America or Europe. Due to being released on an enhanced console, nearly everything was updated, though the game is in no way a remake of the original Famicom Wars. However, since it was released on the satellite system, some things had to be omitted such as multiplayer modes, a campaign, and even a story, which was unfortunate though understandable.

Gameplay

Like the original game, you control an army of modern units (unlike BS Fire Emblem: Akaneia Senki‎‎) against an opposing army of similar units. Also unlike Fire Emblem is the fact that each unit can be disposed and replaced, and that each unit does not have a unique and individual background. The game is a tactical role-playing game. Unlike the other “wars” games, in Super Famicom Wars, both the attacking and the defending units fire at the same time. Some units have also been added.

Trivia

In February of 2010, Super Famicom Wars was released on the Wii's Virtual Console in Japan.
