Sunkern (JP) is a species of Pokémon in the series of the same name. It is a Grass-type Pokémon that made its first appearance in the second generation games Gold and Silver. It evolves into Sunflora when exposed to a Sun Stone.

Sunkern appears to be based on a shooting sunflower seed.

Sunkern may be a combination of sunflower and kernel.

  • Sunkern has the lowest base HP stat and the lowest base stat total of all Grass-type Pokémon. In addition, it:
    • Is tied with Lotad and Bramblin for the lowest base Defense stat of all Grass-type Pokémon.
    • Is tied with Bellsprout and Seedot for the lowest base Special Defense stat of all Grass-type Pokémon.
    • Is tied with Blipbug for the second lowest base stat total of all Pokémon, after Solo Form Wishiwashi.
  • In The Official Pokémon Handbook 3, published by Scholastic Corporation, Sunkern's data says its height is 0'01" when it is actually 1'00".
  • Since Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Sunkern has the lowest base experience yield of all Pokémon.
