The Stone of Agony is an item from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It is a magic stone shaped like the Nintendo 64 Rumble Pak that vibrates when it detects a hidden cave or other secret nearby. It acts as an in-universe explanation for the effects, when a Rumble Pak is inserted in the Nintendo 64 controller's expansion port, and when the Stone of Agony is equipped, the controller will rumble when a secret is nearby. Coupled with the Mask of Truth and Lens of Truth, these three items will give Link access to a multitude of areas that would be nearly impossible to find otherwise.
Shard of Agony[]
The Shard of Agony was the item that replaced the Stone of Agony in the Nintendo 3DS version since the device lacked a rumble feature. The shard will make a noise and its icon will appear on the 3DS's top screen when Link gets near a secret cave whereas in the original version, the Rumble Pak would vibrate if Link was near one.
Trivia[]
- This item does not do anything in the Wii Virtual Console version of Ocarina of Time as that version of the game does not emulate the rumble feature. The feature does work in the Nintendo GameCube, Wii U Virtual Console, and N64 Switch Online versions of the game.
- This is one of the few item completely changed in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, due to the Nintendo 3DS having no rumble feature. It was changed to the Shard of Agony.
