The Star Rod is a magical artifact in the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby's Adventure. It is a magic rod that serves as the power source for the Fountain of Dreams, a mystical fountain floating high above planet Pop Star. When the Star Rod is inserted into the fountain's altar, magical water flows from it and over the side of the fountain, becoming an enchanted mist every night that provides sweet dreams and restful sleep to the residents of Dream Land.

At the start of Kirby's Adventure, King Dedede breaks the Star Rod into seven pieces and gives them to his minions, causing the residents of Dream Land to be unable to dream, so Kirby sets out to recover the pieces and repair the Rod. Near the end of the game it's revealed that the reason Dedede did this was that Nightmare had corrupted the fountain and attempted to use it to attack Dream Land but Kirby uses the Star Rod to battle Nightmare and thus save his planet. While it does give Kirby an added ability, it is not commonly considered a copy ability seeing that the player does not have to gobble up an enemy to earn this power.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Magolor mentions that the ancients created "a mysterious item that brings dreams to life" likely referring to the Star Rod.

Super Smash Bros. series[]

The Star Rod appears in all six Super Smash Bros. games as an item. When picked up it can be used as a bludgeoning weapon or thrown to deal damage. Using a Tilt or Smash Attack will cause it to shoot out stars that damage far away opponents. The version of the Star Rod used by Smash Fighters appears to be a fragment or mass production model, and as such can only hold up to 16 star shots before it runs out of magic.

Kirby: Right Back at Ya![]

The Star Rod also appeared in the final episode of Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, "Fright to the Finish", where, like in the games that it appeared in, Kirby uses it to ultimately defeat Nightmare. Unlike in the games, it is shown here to be a Copy Ability that Kirby obtains by swallowing his own Warp Star.
