The Star, Starman, or most often called the Super Star, is an item that appears commonly in the Mario franchise. It is usually used as a power-up. Mario most often collects it through a ? Block or a Brick Block, and it makes Mario have the temporary ability to be immune.

Appearances + How To Obtain

Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, 'Super Mario Land,' and Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins - Mario can collect a Star by hitting against a ? Block or Brick Block, and it gives short-lasting invincibility when gained.

Super Mario Bros. 2 - Stars can now be obtained by collecting 5 cherries in a level.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - At the goal, there is now a roulette of items. The Star will owe 4000 points to the player if hit. Get 3 Stars in a row, and you win 5 1-Up Mushrooms. They may also be obtained from a hittable block.

Super Mario World - Stars can now be obtained by Roulette Blocks.

New Super Mario Bros. - Stars are now used in Multiplayer. They are called Big Stars, and whoever collects the most will win the game.

Super Mario GalaxySuper Mario Galaxy 2 - There are no Stars, but Rainbow Stars bring a similar resemblance.
