Sliggoo is a Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in the sixth generation. It evolves from Goomy at level 40. At level 50, it can evolve into Goodra during rain in the overworld. Rain caused by Rain Dance, Drizzle or Primordial Sea will not trigger the evolution. It has a regional form in Hisui which is a Dragon/Steel type.

Physiology & Behavior[]

Sliggoo is a Pokémon that resembles a snail. The lower half of its body is light purple, while the upper half is a paler purple. It has featureless, green eyes, a single, tiny eyelash over each eye, and two pale green spots on each cheek. It has nubby, underdeveloped arms. On top of its head are two pairs of antenna-like horns; the front horns are small nubs, while the hind horns are considerably longer. Its gelatinous body forms a spiral shell-like structure on its back. Contained within the shell are its brain and other organs.

Sliggoo excretes and coats its body with sticky mucus that can dissolve anything. Because it lacks teeth, it sprays this liquid onto prey and slurps them up once they are dissolved. Since its slime can melt through anything, predators stay far away from it. Its eyes have devolved, causing it to go blind. This makes it difficult for it to tell allies from prey and it will sometimes attempt to melt its companions. Its four horns act as a radar system and are used to detect sounds and smells. Sliggoo only cares about food and will flee from its enemies whenever possible.

Hisuian Sliggoo[]

Hisuian Sliggoo has droopy, teal eyes that imply its melancholic personality, and carries a metallic spiral shell that lies parallel to the ground. Unlike its Kalosian form, it has one teal spot on each cheek rather than two. It tucks almost its entire body inside this shell, and will only let out its head, neck, and arms to peek outside.

When Hisuian Sliggoo wants to move quickly, it will tuck its entire body into its shell, position the shell vertically to the ground, and roll itself away. It can also use its shell to float on water. It's theorized that the shell was created as a result of Hisuian Sliggoo's slime reacting with the iron-rich waters of Hisui. Both forms of Sliggoo can typically be found within marshlands or near bodies of water.

Origin[]

Sliggoo seems based on soft bodied gastropods such as slugs, nudibranch, and semi-slugs. Its snail origins as well as its Dragon typing and elongated body shape may mean it could also be based on the Lou Carcolh, a mythical serpent/mollusk creature from French folklore. It may also be based upon the concept of "living slime" in popular culture.

Its name is a combination of slick or slippery or slimy or slug and goo.

Title Entry
Sixth Pokémon generation

Pokémon Y Its four horns are a high-performance radar system. It uses them to sense sounds and smells, rather than using ears or a nose.
Pokémon Omega Ruby It drives away opponents by excreting a sticky liquid that can dissolve anything. Its eyes devolved, so it can't see anything.
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Its four horns are a high-performance radar system. It uses them to sense sounds and smells, rather than using ears or a nose.
Seventh Pokémon generation
Pokémon Sun It has trouble drawing a line between friends and food. It will calmly try to melt and eat even those it gets along well with.
Pokémon Moon This Pokémon's mucous can dissolve anything. Toothless, it sprays mucous on its prey. Once they're nicely dissolved, it slurps them up.
Pokémon Ultra Sun It crawls along sluggishly. The swirly protrusion on its back is filled with its brain and other organs.
Pokémon Ultra Moon Its entire body is covered with gooey mucus that can dissolve anything. Be sure to put gloves on if you're going to touch it.
Eighth Pokémon generation
Pokémon Sword Although this Pokémon isn't very strong, its body is coated in a caustic slime that can melt through anything, so predators steer clear of it.
Pokémon Shield The lump on its back contains its tiny brain. It thinks only of food and escaping its enemies.
Ninth Pokémon generation
Pokémon Scarlet The swirly protrusion on its back is filled with all its vital organs, such as its brain and heart.

Hisui[]

Title Entry
Pokémon Legends: Arceus A creature given to melancholy. I suspect its metallic shell developed as a result of the mucus on its skin reacting with the iron in Hisui's water.
