Shuntaro Furukawa (JP) is Nintendo's current and 6th president, succeeding Tatsumi Kimishima, who retired in June 2018. He had been an Outside Director of the Pokémon Company before joining the Nintendo Board of Directors in June 2016 as the Managing Executive Officer of the Corporate Analysis & Administration Division.

History

Furukawa originally grew up on the Famicom and has a great amount of respect for Shigeru Miyamoto and other creators of the time. He originally joined Nintendo in 1994 working in global marketing and accounting. He spent 10 years of his tenure in Germany. He eventually became a part of Nintendo's directors in the Pokémon Company.

In 2015, he was promoted to the General Manager of Corporate Planning Department. In June 2016, with some company restructuring he joined the Nintendo Board of Directors in June 2016 as the Managing Executive Officer of the Corporate Analysis & Administration Division.

In April 2018, Tatsumi Kimishima announced that his retirement was scheduled for June 28, 2018 and that Furukawa would be promoted as president of Nintendo. Kimishima later retired from his position on that day, and Furukawa officially became President of Nintendo.
