Shiny Pokémon are a rare type of Pokémon in the series of the same name. They are a recolored version of the main Pokémon that shines when they are encountered. In English, the term "Shiny" was first used in Pokémon Black and White. Previously, they were also referred to as Rare Pokémon, Color Pokémon, and Alt. Color.
Many Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, along with some others, are "Shiny locked", meaning they can never be shiny when encountered (although they do still have shiny variants). In addition, some non-catchable Pokémon can be shiny, such as the Minccino shown by Professor Juniper in Black and White.
Main series[]
Shiny Pokémon first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver. The specific rarity for shiny Pokémon differs depending on game and method.
Spin-off games[]
Pokémon Rumble[]
Shiny Pokémon occasionally appear in Pokémon Rumble. They will always tip over when defeated.
Pokémon Conquest[]
Nobunaga has a shiny Rayquaza, which was distributed to Japanese Black and White players to celebrate the release of the game.
