Episode 1
I Won't Cry!
Serena: Oh! You're Prince Euden, right?! I'm Serena! I've got my letter of introduction right... Wait, hang on a sec. Where is it?! Oh no! I LOST it! Now I'm gonna have to slink off into the night like a dog!
Euden: Er, we don't actually require formal letters of introduction here.
Serena: YOU DON'T?! But I was told I'd be sent packing at the gates if I didn't have one!
Euden: Who told you that?
Serena: Oh no. I got tricked again, didn't I? Maaan, I paid a FORTUNE for that letter... Oh no! I shouldn't be wasting your super- valuable time with a pathetic tale of woe! Augh! I can't believe I wasted your super-valuable time! I'M SO SORRY!
Euden: No, it's good that you told me. I need to know if con artists are profiting off my good name and reputation so I can head out and put a stop to it.
Serena: Well, I'm glad you aren't turning me away, 'cause otherwise that would mean I had my armor and sword polished for nothing.
Euden: By armor, do you mean that gauntlet? Because it certainly is shiny.
Serena: Yep! See, I was also told you'd turn me away if my gear didn't "blind your eyes like the fire of ten thousand suns."
Euden: Also not true.
Serena: WHAAAAAT?! But I spent SO much money to have my armor and sword polished!
Euden: I take it this was the same person who lied about the letter, right? If you like, I'd be happy to go track them down.
Serena: No, don't! If you do that for little ol' me, I'll be so happy that I CRY! Besides, they DID write me a letter and polish my equipment, so I suppose I can't be too upset about it. I mean, just look at this sword gleam. It was polished using oil from a pearl!
Euden: Pearls don't make oil. Er, you know what? You may want to stop being quite so trusting in the future.
Serena: Oh man, I'm off to one humdinger of a start here, I tell you what... B-but it's okay! I may be super sad, but I'm NOT going to cry about it! I'll just have to start making a better impression from here on out!
Episode 2
Am I a Burden?
Serena: Say there, Your Lordship! Can I ask you to give me your honest opinion?
Euden: Only if you promise to stop calling me "Your Lordship." ...But sure, ask away.
Serena: Am I a burden? Wait, no! Don't bother answering! I already know that I am! I'll never be able to start improving if I refuse to accept that truth!
Euden: No, Serena. You're not a burden. You've actually been a valuable asset to all of us in battle.
Serena: You...mean it? Oh, I am SO sorry! It was super unfair for me to even ask you that! I was just forcing you into a situation where you'd have to say I was wrong.
Euden: You're not forcing me to do anything, Serena. And you really are a help.
Serena: Lying is wrong! You're our leader; you need to tell the truth no matter what.
Euden: That's...what I'm doing. You're a big help to us, and we need you around.
Serena: *sniff* Um, can you turn around for a sec?
Euden: Why?
Serena: Because I'm so happy I'm gonna CRY! And I don't want you to see that.
Euden: I-I see. Well then, I'll just...leave you alone and let you do your thing.
Serena: Wait! Please wait! I'm all right—I'll just do it later. I'm actually really good at remembering things and crying about 'em. So, umm, Your Highness?
Euden: Yes?
Serena: I'm not satisfied with how I am now. I'm going to keep getting stronger so I can help out even more!
Euden: That sounds like a good plan. I'll be sure to do the same.
Serena: I won't let you down! I mean, I know I'm not as strong or reliable as other folks here... But I share the same dream, and I'll fight to make it come true no matter what! ...But honestly—I AM a burden, right?
Episode 3
Mad Bear Charge!
Ranzal: Hey, Serena? Cleo's lookin' for ya.
Serena: B-but I've only done half of my daily training regimen so far!
Ranzal: Look, I like hard work as much as anybody, but don't ya think yer overdoin' it? Gotta rest once in a while or ya won't be no good to nobody, right?
Serena: Aw, it's sweet of you to say so. But I swore to everyone back home that I would become stronger. I promised I wouldn't let fiends destroy even a single house or field!
Ranzal: See, that's what I'm talkin' about! Yer puttin' too much pressure on yerself.
Serena: But if I don't become stronger, I'll just...hold everyone back. *sniff*
Ranzal: Whoa, easy! Dunno what yer thinkin' about, but it ain't worth cryin' over.
Serena: *sniff* As IF I would cry! Are you making fun of me?!
Ranzal: The hell? No! I'd never do that! Er, but sorry if it came off that way.
Serena: Hee hee! Oh, don't worry. I'm not offended.
Ranzal: Huh?
Serena: You're actually surprisingly sensitive, so I couldn't resist teasing you.
Ranzal: Bwaaa ha ha! I love it!
Serena: Er, you love what? Did I say something weird?
Ranzal: Nah, it's just that yer a real sensitive and straightforward sort yerself. Ain't never seen ya bite back before.
Serena: Straightforward? Wait, does that mean that you think I'm STUPID? Oh noooo!
Ranzal: I meant it in a good way, I promise. In fact, tell ya what—I think you and me should end this chat with a little sparrin'.
Serena: Oh, yay! I'm not gonna hold back!
Ranzal: Well, someone perked up fast. Still, ya ain't never gonna beat me if ya just come chargin' at me like some kinda mad bear in the woods.
Serena: Too bad, pal! That's just who I am! Now get ready for my mad bear charge!
Ranzal: Bwaaa ha ha! Guess this ain't gonna be the easy workout I thought it would be. All right then, kid! Gimme all ya got!
Episode 4
The Strength to Admit the Truth
Cleo: Let me see your shoulder, Serena.
Serena: Huh? Why?! No! My shoulder's fine!
Cleo: It is obviously NOT fine, Serena. I can see from here that you've hurt it.
Serena: Have not!
Cleo: Why are you lying to me? Come now, let me see it.
Serena: You stay away from me, lady!
Cleo: If you just let me heal you and then rest, you'll be back to normal in no time.
Serena: But if I rest, I'll be a burden!
Cleo: Ah. Now we come to it.
Ranzal: Oh, yer a burden all right.
Serena: ......
Cleo: Whaaaat?!
Ranzal: I'll ask ya this once: Are ya injured?
Serena: Um...n-no! I'm fine!
Ranzal: Then yer a burden.
Serena: B-but that's... That's...
Cleo: I'm not certain what you're trying to do, Ranzal, but it is extremely not helpful.
Ranzal: Look, I was a merc for a long time, and I've seen plenty of folks what were useless burdens on the battlefield. Some of 'em just didn't know how to fight, and some were cowards who'd stab ya in the back for a couple pieces'a gold. But the biggest burdens of all were the ones what couldn't admit a weakness. Those guys got ya killed. And that's what yer doin' right now.
Serena: But I...
Ranzal: Bein' hurt don't make ya a burden. Hell, it happens to everyone in this here line of work. But if ya rest up and let yerself heal, yer ready to help in the next battle. Hidin' an injury just makes it linger. Better to sit out a fight or two and come back swingin' than limp along half-baked causin' trouble for everybody.
Serena: *sniff*
Ranzal: So don't try to hide yer weaknesses, yeah? Tellin' people yer strong don't mean squat. It's what ya DO that matters.
Serena: I...I understand.
Ranzal: Then ya know what to do.
Serena: Um...Cleo? Can you please look at my shoulder? I think I've...injured it. Would you please heal me?
Cleo: I'd be happy to.
Ranzal: Ya may not realize it yet, but doin' what ya just did actually makes ya stronger.
Serena: I won't forget that, Ranzal. I promise.
Episode 5
Holding Back Tears
Serena: Um, Your Highness? I was wondering if I could take a small vacation.
Euden: Of course! Have any big plans?
Serena: I need to go home and apologize to everyone in my village.
Euden: Apologize? For what?
Serena: A while ago, we were attacked by fiends. But instead of helping, I was a burden. And at the end of the day, there was a lot of damage done. I cried about it for days, but then I dried my tears, left the village, and swore not to return until I was stronger.
Euden: So you're apologizing for not helping during the fiend attack? Serena, you were younger then, and nowhere near the fighter that you are now. I don't think you have to apologize for that.
Serena: No, I agree. That's why I want to apologize for what I did AFTER the attack.
Euden: What do you mean?
Serena: Fiends destroyed nearly our entire village. But when they left, everyone got together and helped to put it all back together. ...Everyone except me. I didn't lift a single board or pound a solitary nail. Instead, I went off by myself and trained. I didn't help anyone—and THAT'S what I need to apologize for. I was an idiot who only thought of myself. I just hope they can forgive me.
Euden: I know they will.
Serena: *sniff* You really think so? But I was a selfish, useless burden!
Euden: You were still trying in your own way. Besides, you were training because you wanted to be useful, right? I'm sure they understand that and won't hold your actions against you.
Serena: *sniiiiff* Oh man, you're totally gonna make me cry.
Euden: What's wrong with crying?
Serena: *sniff* N-no, I'll hold it back. *sniff* I'll just remember this later and cry about it then!
