The SNES-101 was a redesign of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was originally released in North America on October 20, 1997, and in Japan on March 27, 1998.[1] It was retailed at US$99.95 in a bundle with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
Design[]
It takes a much more simpler design than the original SNES. It incorporates design elements from both the original Japanese/European and North American models but in a smaller size. The reset and power buttons were relocated to the left-hand side of the system, and the LED indicator and the eject button were completely removed. Instead, the cartidrage needs to be removed, by hand.
While the original SNES has a bottom expansion slot, this design doesn't, meaning the Satellaview can't work with it. For the AV output, it has the same multi-out port used on the original console, unlike the original model, the former's AV port only supports composite video. Support for S-Video and RGB Video was disabled internally, but they can be restored through modifications. The internal RF modulator was also disabled, needing an external one for the output.
The controller was also changed a bit, with the console's logo being replaced by an embossed Nintendo logo.
