Like previous games in the G Generation series, the player controls a team of Gundam Pilots on a sprite-based grid retelling the stories of the Gundam series. When attacking the game shifts to a 3D model attacking the enemy with a cut-in of the pilot. The player organizes their pilots into either a Warship Group or a Raid Group. In a Warship Group, several pilots can be carried across the battlefield and then deployed to attack enemies from the ship at once. Raid Groups are more limited with only 8 units per group and their turn order in independent of each other. However, they will perform support actions when in range of each other and can perform Raid Link-Up combination attacks.
Units can be leveled up and upon reaching a high enough level, they can be upgraded into a new stronger unit. Units can also be combined to create different units. Additional units can be captured from enemies when the player destroys the warship and grabs units waving white flags. The new system is the Ability get system where pilots can obtain abilities from other units that they defeat
