Ryuji Kobayashi is a design director who works at Nintendo, mostly on The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing series.


Kobayashi's earliest work at Nintendo was designing various character 3D models on some Nintendo 64 titles. In The Wind Waker, he designed various enemies.

He took the position of design director with Animal Crossing: Wild World, and also helped shaping the graphical style of the Wii games working in Wii Sports and Wii Play as the lead 3D artist, as well as Animal Crossing: City Folk with the same position as the DS title.

He was the main artist in Skyward Sword he was the lead artist, where he led the biggest team of artists to work in a Nintendo game at the time and also worked Link's redesign for the title. Later on, he assisted with the art direction of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and he became the senior lead artist on the animation of Breath of the Wild.
