Episode 1
The Mysterious Priest
Man: Help me, Ryozen...
Man: The person I care for most is suffering, and there's nothing I can do to help her.
Man: Besides just listening to her woes, that is...
Ryozen: Nothing you can do, eh?
Ryozen: Ha ha ha! Don't be a fool, youngster! You're already doing plenty.
Man: What?
Ryozen: Comforting her, listening to her—that's eased her pain more than you can know.
Ryozen: Her thoughts come through clear as daylight to ol' Ryozen.
Ryozen: My intuition never lets me down.
Man: Really...?
Ryozen: That's right. Just stay by her side and keep supporting her like you have been.
Ryozen: That's the funny thing about people...
Ryozen: Sometimes all they need is a shoulder to lean on.
Man: Thank you, Ryozen... Thank you!
Cleo: Wise words.
Euden: He seems like quite the virtuous priest.
Ryozen: You there! Young'un! Got a minute for an old man's ramblings?
Euden: Huh? Oh, um, of course.
Ryozen: You're a knight, aren't ya? I could tell from one look.
Ryozen: Why did you take up the sword? Why do you fight?
Euden: To protect this land and its people.
Ryozen: But is fighting really necessary for that? Seems like just being there for people when they need help would be enough.
Euden: I've often had that same thought.
Euden: But if I do nothing to address the current situation, many people will suffer.
Euden: That's why I took up the sword. I don't regret my decision.
Ryozen: I see, I see.
Ryozen: I knew you'd say that, Prince Euden.
Euden: Huh? How do you know my name?
Ryozen: I had a premonition you'd come here. So I've been waiting for you.
Euden: You had a vision of the future?
Ryozen: Eh, I'd say it's closer to having very accurate intuition.
Ryozen: Now then! I wanna join your ranks.
Euden: Oh! Well, we'd appreciate the help, of course, but are you sure?
Ryozen: Ha ha ha! You'll be needing all the help you can get if you're looking to bring peace to this land as quickly as you hope.
Ryozen: Isn't that right?
Euden: Indeed... Well said.
Euden: I'm grateful for your help... Ryozen, was it?
Ryozen: Sure was! Now, I think it's high time we get back to that castle of yours. I'll race ya!
Euden: What?! It's way too far to run all the way... H-hey, wait!
Episode 2
Flying Free
Priest: I know that Father Ryozen is in this castle.
Priest: Nothing good will come of concealing him here.
Priest: I wish to see him. ...Now, if you please.
Ranzal: Haven't ya been listenin' to anything I've been saying? I don't know a Ryozen!
Priest: Playing dumb to the last, I see.
Priest: Very well. I shall have a look for myself.
Ranzal: Oh yeah? Don't remember invitin' ya inside.
Ranzal: Ya better leave before I MAKE ya leave— and I ain't gonna be gentle about it.
Priest: ...Fine. I will go.
Priest: But mark my words: I shall return.
Ryozen: Nicely done, Ranzal. Those Ilian priests are spoiled brats.
Ranzal: Enough about him. I think ya owe me a few words in return for protectin' ya.
Ryozen: Ha ha ha! Right you are, my boy. Thank you.
Ranzal: That ain't what I meant. Just who the hell ARE ya, anyway?
Ryozen: Oh, just a retired old man in his dotage. No one of importance, I assure you.
Ranzal: Ya can't expect me to buy that.
Ryozen: ...Hmph. All right. There was a time, many, many years back, when I was the archbishop of the Ilian Church.
Ranzal: WHAAAT?! How long were ya gonna keep that to yerself? ...Wait, and why'd ya quit?
Ryozen: Oh, ol' Ryozen's much more suited to flying free than being cooped up in a cage.
Ryozen: Now then, if you don't mind...
Ranzal: Where ya goin'?
Ryozen: Ha ha! This bird has to stretch his wings!
Ranzal: That dumb geezer ain't got a care in the world.
Cleo: Ah, Ranzal. Have you seen Ryozen, by chance?
Ranzal: Ya just missed him. Why?
Cleo: He's been stealing morsels from the food I was planning to serve for lunch.
Cleo: Such childish behavior—and at his age!
Cleo: This is not the first time, either. But whenever I seek to admonish him, he disappears.
Ranzal: Huh. Guess that explains why he bolted outta here.
Ranzal: I dunno whether to be impressed or annoyed...
Episode 3
The Power to Bring Peace
Fiend: Raaaaagghh!
Ryozen: Hyaaaah!
Ryozen: Hmph. That should do it.
Elisanne: You were like a blur... Completely unencumbered by the fiends.
Elisanne: It's hard to believe you are in your 70s.
Ryozen: Ha ha ha! Ol' Ryozen's been at this a long, long time.
Ryozen: Believe it or not, people used to call me a demon. Nothing could stop me once I got going...
Ryozen: But the years have weakened me some.
Ranzal: Yer pretty far from weak...
Euden: You're amazing, Ryozen.
Euden: I envy your strength.
Ryozen: Those are dangerous thoughts, Prince Euden.
Ryozen: When I was a young'un, I used to think that if I could just get strong enough, I could save the whole world.
Ryozen: But I was wrong.
Ryozen: Bringing peace to the world takes a different sort of power.
Euden: Which is?
Ryozen: Well, whaddya think?
Euden: Hmmm...
Ranzal: Military might? Nah...that ain't it. Ya can't just fight peace into existence.
Ranzal: And it probably ain't money, neither...
Elisanne: Political influence, perhaps?
Elisanne: No... That always carries the risk of sparking war...
Ryozen: And you, Prince Euden? What do you think?
Euden: I...
Euden: ......
Ryozen: No guesses, mmm?
Ryozen: Well, it's nothing to twist yourself into knots over.
Ryozen: One day, you'll find your answer.
Euden: I'll tell you as soon as I do, Ryozen.
Ryozen: Ha ha! Well, all this thinking has got ol' Ryozen famished!
Ryozen: Enough philosophy!
Ryozen: C'mon now, back to the castle! Time to give our brains a rest and fill our bellies!
Episode 4
True Salvation
Ryozen: This presence...
Euden: Ryozen?
Euden: Where are you going? Hold on a—
Villager: S-someone! Help!
Euden: What is it? What happened?
Villager: B-bandits... They attacked my village... Please, you have to help us!
Euden: All right, I'm on my way!
Euden: That must be the village that's under attack. I have to hurry!
Chief Bandit: Capture the women and children alive, ya hear? No damagin' the merchandise!
Chief Bandit: But we got no use for the men, so you can just kill 'em! Bwa ha ha!
Ryozen: I'll give you one chance to leave this village in peace and go back wherever you crawled from.
Euden: Is that Ryozen?!
Chief Bandit: Who the hell are you, old man? Ya got a death wish or somethin'?
Ryozen: No respect for your elders, eh? Take this, whippersnapper! Hyaaaaah!
Chief Bandit: Gaaah!
Bandit: H-he beat the boss with one hit! That old man's some kinda monster!
Ryozen: Who's next? Ol' Ryozen's got plenty for everybody!
Bandit: Aaaahhh!
Bandit: W-we'll remember this, old man! You'll be sorry!
Villager: Thank you! You saved us!
Ryozen: Please, none of that.
Ryozen: Nothing I did was praiseworthy.
Ranzal: Whoa... Not even the archbishop anymore, and he's still got that kinda power...
Ranzal: He didn't need us at all.
Euden: That was incredible, Ryozen. You saved that village all on your own.
Ryozen: Did I?
Ryozen: If you think about it, I wonder if you can really consider this village "saved"...
Euden: What?
Ryozen: Oh sure, I helped the villagers a little...
Ryozen: But I still acted violently.
Ryozen: The bandits who got away will despise me for what I did—then they'll take that hatred and use it to attack again.
Ryozen: Violence only breeds violence.
Ryozen: If anything, I just added fuel to the fire.
Ryozen: Let me ask you again, Prince Euden.
Ryozen: What's the power that can bring peace to the world?
Euden: It's...
Ryozen: ......
Ryozen: Heh. Don't worry—it'll come with time.
Ryozen: Ol' Ryozen still has plenty left to learn as well. Ha ha ha!
Euden: He really is something...
Episode 5
The Answer
Euden: The power that brings peace to the world...
Euden: I've given it so much thought, but the answer still evades me.
Euden: Each day brings still more battles. The only way to protect this land is to take up arms to defend it.
Euden: But... No, even armed, there's only so much one person can do...
Euden: Without my friends, I... Oh!
Euden: Is that it?
Ryozen: You could light a dark room with that smile, Prince Euden.
Ryozen: Something good happen?
Euden: Ryozen! Perfect timing.
Euden: Listen. About what you asked me before—
Ryozen: Ah, yes, the power that brings peace. You've finally figured it out.
Ryozen: Right?
Euden: Yes... How did you know?
Ryozen: My stalwart intuition, of course!
Ryozen: So go on, tell me: What's your answer?
Euden: The power that brings peace to the world... is friendship.
Euden: No matter how strong you are, one person alone cannot bring an end to war.
Euden: I may have the power to shapeshift, but I can't do anything if I act alone.
Euden: But having friends changes everything.
Euden: Together, we can protect people. Together, we can accomplish anything.
Euden: If there was a way to find common ground with your enemy...
Euden: Then you could become friends and build peace together.
Euden: Peace is a product of everyone working together for a common good.
Ryozen: I see...
Euden: What do you think?
Ryozen: It's a peach of an answer! Well done. I knew you'd get there before long; there's a good head on those shoulders.
Euden: Really? I'm glad to hear that, Ryozen.
Ryozen: If memory serves, I took far, far longer to find my own answer to that question.
Ryozen: I used to seek out battle and use my strength to force an end to the fighting.
Ryozen: But it's as I told you before: using brute strength to bend people to your will only breeds hatred and anger.
Ryozen: That was something I didn't realize.
Ryozen: At least, not until my own acts of violence inspired people to start even more horrible conflicts.
Euden: I...I had no idea.
Ryozen: But you? You're different. No wrong turns on the way to your answer!
Ryozen: That's something ol' Ryozen never could've done.
Ryozen: But with compassion as boundless as yours, it's little wonder...
Ryozen: Prince Euden...
Ryozen: You say peace is born from friendship...
Ryozen: Then I wonder: Will you let me fight beside you? As your friend?
Euden: Of course! Your strength is invaluable, and your wisdom even more so.
Ryozen: Ha ha ha! Good, good.
Ryozen: You can count on this old fool to do his part!
