The Rock type is one of the eighteen Pokémon types. Rock type Pokémon are highly defensive possessing natural body armor that protects them from the teeth and claws of other Pokémon. Some like Rhydon, Lycanroc, Tyranitar, Crustle, Drednaw, Hisuian Growlithe and Kleavor are animals with rock hard shells, osteoderms or stone growing on their bodies. While others, such as Geodude, Boldore, Rolycoly, Carbink, Naclstack, Minior and Glimmora are composed of living rocks or minerals, brought to life through strange energies or magic in their environment. Most Rock types have the power to manipulate stones and other minerals through geokinesis, launching stones at the target or impaling them on rock spikes. Some can even manipulate things like crystals, fossils, salt or tar. Rock-type moves are super effective against Bug-, Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-type Pokémon, while Rock-type Pokémon are weak to Fighting-, Grass-, Ground-, Steel-, and Water-type moves.
Most Fossil Pokémon; previously extinct Pokémon brought back to life through ancient fossils, are part Rock type. It's unknown if this is because Rock types, with their hard bodies, are more likely to leave fossils or if the revival process of these fossils causes the Pokémon to become part Rock type as a side effect.
