Regional forms, known as Alolan forms in Pokémon Sun and Moon, Galarian forms in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Hisuian forms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Paldean forms in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, are a form of Pokémon seen in some regions. They look somewhat similar to the original version, but with different attributes and type.
54 Pokémon currently have regional forms, and 57 regional forms currently exist in total (55 and 58, respectively, if White-Striped Basculin is counted as a regional form). Apart from Meowth and Tauros, which have two and three respectively, each Pokémon with a regional form has only one.

There are 18 Alolan forms, all of which are of Gen I Pokémon.

White-Striped Basculin[]
In the mainline games, Basculin's White-Striped Form is considered an alternate form rather than a regional form, but bears many similarities with regional forms. However, some official media refers to it as a regional form. The status of White-Striped Basculin as a regional form is inconsistent between various Pokémon media.
Evidence for[]
- In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Professor Laventon refers to White-Striped Basculin as a regional form in its Pokédex entry.
- White-Striped Basculin is treated as a Hisuian form in Pokémon HOME.
- In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Basculin cards featuring the White-Striped Form use the name "Hisuian Basculin".
- In the video "One Thousand Pokémon!", which was made to commemorate the number of Pokémon in the National Pokédex surpassing 1000, the segment showcasing the Pokémon of Hisui shows White-Striped Basculin alongside Hisuian forms.
Evidence against[]
- White-Striped Basculin is not referred to as "Hisuian Basculin" or "Hisuian form" in the games, instead being referred to as "White-Striped Form".
- In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, White-Striped Basculin is not considered a regional form internally, so does not function as one.
- In Pokémon GO, White-Striped Form Basculin do not appear when searching
hisui
, unlike other Hisuian forms. - White-Striped Basculin and its Basculegion] are found in the wild in Kitakami and are part of the Kitakami Pokédex; conversely, every other regional form and regional evolution are only naturally present in their home region and their home region's Pokédex.
- While several regional forms appear in Blueberry Academy's Terarium and the Blueberry Pokédex, the Terarium is an artificial environment and these Pokémon are not native to the Unova region (where Blueberry Academy is located).
Paldean forms[]
There are four Paldean forms for two different Pokémon.

In addition to the new Paldean forms, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also introduced Wiglett and Wugtrio, who resemble Diglett and Dugtrio; as well as Toedscool and Toedscruel, who resemble Tentacool and Tentacruel. The new species are stated to not be related to the original Pokémon, they are called Ecologically similar Pokémon.
