Quadraxis is a gargantuan security drone that serves as the sentinel of the Hive Temple in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Defeating Quadraxis earns Samus the Annihilator Beam and allows her to reach the Hive Energy Controller.

Battle[]

First Phase[]

When Samus first enters the Hive Temple, Quadraxis can be seen dormant in the center of the room. As she approaches the unit, an Ing darkling takes control of it, starting the battle. During the first part of the battle, Quadraxis slowly moves around the room’s center, randomly shooting matter-antimatter blasts, machine gun fire, or a barrage of missiles at Samus, and also stomps the ground, sending out shockwaves; Samus can cripple the feet and prevent the shockwave attacks by planting Morph Ball Bombs under the vents on the feet, or attacking the vents with the Boost Ball. The giant machine also has a powerful lock-on attack that clouds Samus’s visor, and a vortex-like spin attack which draws her in. Fortunately, both of these attacks can easily be avoided using the Boost Ball. The vortex-spin attack can also be countered by shooting the feet with the Charge Beam or using the Screw Attack. Quadraxis’s kneecaps randomly glow blue: Samus must shoot at the kneecaps that are glowing either with Super Missiles or Charge Beam attacks from any beam of her choice; a few shots will destroy the kneecap, causing it to produce energy and ammo replenishments, which helps because there are no Light Crystals or Light Beacons in the room. Unfortunately, Quadraxis moves faster as Samus attacks each of its kneecaps. After destroying all the kneecaps, Quadraxis collapses and the head detaches from the body.

Second Phase[]

Despite Quadraxis’s main body being disabled, the tactical control unit inside it is still fully operational, and sending commands to the head, which is now hovering around the room. Samus has to use her Echo Visor to target the transmitter sticking out of the body and shoot at it. Crippling it disables the shield protecting Quadraxis’s head module, stunning the unit. While the head is stunned, Samus must use the Echo Visor again to destroy the three sonic receptors on the unit. Upon destroying one of the receptors, Quadraxis reactivates its protective force field and dispenses a Dark Quad for additional protection. Destroying all three receptors cuts off Quadraxis’s link to the main body, and the glass covering the head shatters. The unit then shatters the glass coverings on each of the legs, enabling Samus to use the Spider Ball tracks on the legs.

Third Phase[]

Samus must now shoot Quadraxis’s head, stunning the machine and causing it to drift in a certain direction. Using the Spider Ball tracks on the legs, Samus can use the Boost Ball to propel herself onto the head, attach herself to it, and attack the two Bomb Slots on the unit with either a Morph Ball Bomb or Power Bomb. Once both slots are bombed, Quadraxis’s head crashes to the ground and explodes, leaving behind the Annihilator Beam. As soon as Samus picks it up, Quadraxis’s main body disintegrates and a platform rises in its place.

Trivia[]

  • Pieces of an incomplete Quadraxis can be seen in the Sanctuary Temple on Aether, suggesting that the Luminoth were building a second Quadraxis unit.
