Professor Layton and the Last Specter is an upcoming Nintendo DS adventure puzzle game. It is the fourth game in the Professor Layton series but chronologically the first game. The game was released in November 26, 2009 in Japan and was released in Fall 2011 in all other regions. The game is focused on how Professor Layton met Luke Triton.

Setting

The game is set in the foggy town of Misthallery, where Luke and his parents lived. Later on in the game, the investigation is moved to London by Emmy, but is then returned to Misthallery.

Plot

Professor Layton and the Last Specter starts with Layton being woke up in his office by his maid, Rosa. He receives a letter from an old colleague of his, Clark Triton (Luke's dad) , who is requesting his help in order to solve the problems that had been happening in his town, Misthallery. It seems that a giant specter had been destroying the streets of Misthallery, because of the echo of a mysterious flute nicknamed the Specter's Flute. Layton, wanting to help Clark, rushes out in the Laytonmobile. All of this goes to plan until he is stopped by a young woman riding a scooter called Emmy Altava, who claims to be the his assistant upon the words of Dean Delmona. Layton doesn't remember Emmy from when he saved her from being arrested, but this doesn't surprise her. Together, the two drive off to Misthallery in order to stop the specter.
