Power Stars (JP) are collectible items that gives Mario access to more areas with their design similar to the Super Star.

In Super Mario 64 there are 120 collectible Power Stars total, but the Giant Power Star at the end of the game is never counted towards the amount collected. In Super Mario 64 DS, Silver Stars appear in five which form one Power Star when all are collected.
Super Mario Galaxy / Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario Sunshine does not have Power Stars, but instead has Shine Sprites.
