Pokémon Ultra Sun (JP) and Pokémon Ultra Moon (JP) are two games in the Pokémon series which are both revisions of Pokémon Sun and Moon. The pair of games were released on November 17, 2017 on the Nintendo 3DS.

New Forms

The two cover legendaries, Solgaleo and Lunala, are merged with Necrozma, resulting in two new forms for Necrozma called Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wing Necrozma respectively. These forms gain access to Solgaleo's and Lunala's respective typing and moves. Necrozma later gained its Ultra form, Ultra Necrozma, when either Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma uses Ultra Burst using Ultranecrozium Z.

Lycanroc has its new Dusk Form, but it is only obtainable by evolving select Rockruff. As such, Rockruff is a gift Pokémon until January 2018.

The PokéDex for the region has been expanded to over 400 Pokémon. Several Pokémon that did not appear in Sun and Moon now can be encountered.

New Pokémon

New Pokémon added in the game are the Ultra Beasts Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, Blacephalon and the Mythical Pokémon Zeraora. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the first Pokémon to add new Pokémon in the mid generation.

Power Ring

A new kind of Z-Ring is given to the player in this game. This is a powerful version that gives access to new Z-Moves such as:

  • Clangorous Soulblaze for Kommo-o
  • Splintered Stormshards for Lycanroc
  • Searing Sunraze Smash for  Solgaleo and Dusk Mane Necrozma
  • Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom for Lunala and Dawn Wings Necrozma
  • A new Z-Move for Mimikyu

Ultra Space

The Ultra Space has an expanded focus with a group of villains called the Ultra Space Recon Squad, and new areas for the different Ultra Beasts.

Alola Photo Booth

A new feature in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is the ability to take pictures of the player and a Pokémon. The player can choose between many backgrounds and customize their appearance. The player can also perform the various Z-Move poses.

When taking a picture, it takes several of them in a row so the player can choose which one they like. Players can then decorate the picture with various props like ribbons and mustaches.

Players have to go to a studio normally, but certain events like evolving certain Pokémon can let the player take a picture at their location.

The games have a new plot that involves Necrozma. It seems several of the Trials have changed with several characters seeming to have new roles. A group called Ultra Space Recon Squad has several interactions with the player through the game.

On Metacritic, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon both received a metascore of 84/100.[1][2]
