Pokémon Stadium is a video game for the Nintendo 64 released in 1999. This game was developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo.

While it is the first game in the series for most people, it is in fact the second game in the series, and is the sequel to a Japan-only game entitled Pocket Monsters Stadium. Because of this, Pokémon Stadium is known as Pocket Monsters Stadium 2 in Japan. It was followed by a sequel titled Pokémon Stadium 2, which was also released for the N64.

Gameplay

The ultimate Pokémon battle is about to begin...

At long last, all of your favorite Pokémon are ready to go head-to-head on the N64! Whether you're battling a friend, a Gym Leader or a tournament contestant, you're about to witness some of the most spectacular battle scenes in Pokémon history! Select a team from a huge stable of "rental" battlers, or use the included N64 Transfer Pak to upload your own team from Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow! This Stadium is packed and ready to rock!

Battle your way to the top of the championships or have a free-for-all with up to four players!
Nine Mini-Games add to the multi-player fun!

There are other ways to play the game other than battling. You can play nine different minigames on Pokémon Stadium.

Trivia

There were two different copies of this game made surrounding the Jynx Pokémon controversy in 2000. The first copy features Jynx with black skin, but in the second version, Jynx's textures were modified to change her skin to purple. Her previous black skin can still be visible in the second copy depending on what move she uses.
Using a Pikachu from Pokémon Yellow will allow it to say things like "Pika!" rather than the usual screeching sound.
Many of the Pokémon cries used can easily be compared to their original Game Boy cries.
