Pokéfuta (JP) or Poké Lids are manhole covers installed in Japan by The Pokémon Company that are decorated with Pokémon artwork. The first lids were installed in 2018, and 200 have been installed since then.
Background[]
Manhole covers in Japan are often decorated with artwork. The first Pokéfuta was installed on December 20, 2018, in the city of Ibusuki, Kagoshima, with an Eevee. The covers are hand-colored in Saga Prefecture.
Locations[]
Over 200 covers are distributed across Japan's 22 prefectures. In some locations, the Pokémon chosen relates to the city itself. Eevee was chosen for Ibusuki's cover since Ibusuki rhymes with "I like Eevee" (イーブイ好き, Ībui suki). In some other areas, the Pokémon chosen are the Ambassador Pokémon for that area, i.e. Vulpix in Hokkaido.
