The Player is a term used for a person playing a video game. While many games do not reference that player, they are often mentioned when a character in a game breaks the 4th wall.
Breaking the Fourth Wall
In some games, mostly RPGs, characters break the Fourth Wall by talking to the player (You in front of the TV). Often, they are telling the player how to play the game an what buttons to press, however sometimes the character will ask you questions and even have a conversation with you.
