The Phazon Mines is an area in the 2002 GameCube game, Metroid Prime. It is the center of all Space Pirate activity on Tallon IV, and a facility where they experiment with Phazon on various creatures. In addition, Samus also faces Beam Troopers, Space Pirates using each of her four Beam weapons and are vulnerable to their own weapons, along with Elite Pirates, which are Space Pirates infused with Phazon.
Layout
The Phazon Mines is a huge area, so huge, it consists of three floors. The first floor contains security stations and mining equipment, along with Space Pirate doors, suggesting it is the main HQ level. It is where Samus regains her Grapple Beam after it malfunctioned due to the explosion during the escape from the Space Pirate Frigate Orpheon, and also acquires the Flamethrower.
The second level is slightly deeper, and contains numerous labs and ventilation shafts. Samus faces three Elite Pirates on this floor.
The third level is the deepest and darkest area of the mines, and is where the actual mining takes place. Massive Phazon-lit mushrooms illuminate the area to an extent. The Omega Pirate is kept on this level, in a room called the Elite Quarters.
