Phantoon is a gigantic multidimensional creatures that manifest itself as a giant head with single eye do to its inability to manifest its whole body in a single dimension, which in turn give it ghost-like properties. Phantoon is usually a boss in the games he appears in and is said to be affiliated with the Space Pirates due to its attraction towards Mother Brain's particular brain waves.
Phantoon debuted in Super Metroid. It can be found in the level titled "wrecked ship", which it is said to obtains power from. It behave like a ghost and Its sole weakspot is its lone eye. Everything else on its body is invulnerable to Samus Aran's attacks. In this game, he serves as one of the Space Pirate Leaders even if it is unclear if it even is aware of that or is just used as a weapon by them. Once Phantoon is defeated, the Coverns, enemies who previously spawned on the ship, will stop appearing.
Metroid: Other M
In Metroid: Other M, Phantoon returns as one of the final bosses of the game. When Samus returns to the BOTTLE SHIP, and reaches the ascent to the Control Bridge, enemies will begin to spawn from dark, swirling vortexes to stop her progress. These vortexes are created by Phantoon itself, who has assumed control of the creatures of the BOTTLE SHIP, and wants to get revenge on Samus. When she enters the Control Bridge, Phantoon reveal itself and fight her. After the creature is defeated, it will disappear once more leaving a Grapple Point behind to allow Samus to exit the room.
