Petey Piranha is a large Piranha Plant, and one of the first bosses in Super Mario Sunshine. Since then he has become a regular boss character in many other Mario titles, such as Mario Pinball Land, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Super Princess Peach, New Super Mario Bros., and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He has also played a role in the games Mario Kart: Double Dash‼, Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Superstar Baseball, and Mario Power Tennis. He has multiple special powers that set him apart from normal Piranha Plants, including spitting Goop and flying. He also appears as a playable character in Mario Super Sluggers, and he is in the strength group.

Super Mario Sunshine

Atop the windmill of Bianco Hills is Petey, who is responsible for the huge mess plaguing Bianco Village. When the player reaches the top, Petey will collapse the roof of the windmill, plunging Mario and Petey in, initiating the Boss battle. To defeat him, Mario must fill his mouth with water (using FLUDD) until he falls over, then Ground Pounds his belly. He also appears later in the game as another boss, but this time he can fly. Mario must, again, fill Petey's mouth with water when it's open until he falls down and Ground Pound his belly again.

Mario And Luigi: Partners in Time

Petey appears again as the boss of Gritzy Caves. In the Koopazum he eats Princess Peach as the Shroobs watch. When the Bros. meet Petey again they hide, Luigi then tries to join Mario but forgets about Baby Luigi. Petey then corners the brothers. During battle, Petey tossed rocks, tried to swallow the Bros. like an ant lion, and when stuck in the ground summouned a piranha parasite to help him.

Mario Kart: Double Dash‼

Petey appears as a playable character alongside King Boo in this game.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Petey Piranha makes an appearance as a boss of the Subspace Emissary in the Midair Stadium. In the game, he'll trap both Princess Peach and Zelda into cages, then will attempt to take on Kirby. Kirby will then be required to save one of the princesses, with the other one ultimately being turned into a trophy afterwards by Wario.

Petey Piranha's Trophy is obtainable by throwing a Trophy Stand at him during battle.

Mario Strikers Charged

Petey Piranha makes an appearance in Mario Strikers Charged as well. He is one of the team captains that you can play as if you unlock him. You unlock him by completing his challenge in challenge mode. Petey is extremely slow, but passes and shoots well.

Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and Mario Sports Mix

In Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and Mario Sports Mix, Petey acts as the main gimmick for Daisy Garden. In basketball, he opens and closes his mouth, making timing essential.

New Super Mario Bros.

Petey Piranha also appeared in New Super Mario Bros. as a boss of World 5. He will attempt to fly slowly and then drop on you, so you better keep an eye on him. When he is lying on the floor, ground-pound him 3 times. This makes him go red and dizzy for while. If you defeat him while Mario is in normal form, you go to World 6. But if Mario shrinks and defeats him in mini form, you'll go to World 7, which is optional.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Petey appears as the final smash of the DLC Character Piranha Plant. His cages from Subspace Emissary return, and can trap enemy fighters within. After he cages the enemy fighters, he will breath fire at them and jump around. He will shake the cages a lot and the enemy(s) will be thrown by Petey, causing them to possibly get launched offscreen and be K.O.'d. This final smash is great for multiplayer. Piranha Plant does not appear in some other Super Smash Bros. games, meaning Piranha Plant can't do their final smash, meaning Petey won't appear. Specifically, he does not appear because Piranha Plant can't do their final smash.
