Paper Mario is a paper form of Mario, and the main protagonist in the same name series. Being made of paper, both he and his surroundings have very unique effects and abilities, which can be seen in all the Paper Mario games. Paper Mario is very similar to his 3D counterpart, in that he is a silent Italian plumber who must rescue Princess Peach and defeat Bowser in some way. - EU:"A paper-thin version of Mario from the Paper Mario series. Most recently, he set off on a sticker-packed adventure to find the wish-granting Royal Stickers. Stickers aren't just for collecting, though - they're for making bridges, opening ancient doors, and even for taking on foes in battle!"
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Paper Mario is one of the three playable characters in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam alongside Mario and Luigi. He is introduced by saving the two brothers from Paper Goombas after Luigin released the paper version of the characters from the Mushroom Kingdom by opening the book they were kept into. He then agrees to help the brother to rescue Paper Peach and her regular counterpart who have been captured by both versions of Bowser and their underlings.
During the adventure he uses his powers as a 2D being in a 3D environment to help the brothers by creating new fighting technics or using his properties to solves puzzles. The trio eventually defeats the two Bowsers and Paper Mario returns to his world.
In battle, Paper Mario has a different gameplay style compared to the brothers. He has the lowest defense and HP of the three but can use a special block command to create six to ten copies of himself depending on his Rank Up bonuses. They can take hits for him and help him deal more damage. Paper Mario is the only one that has access to the Trio Attacks while the brothers have the Bros. Attacks. He has longer dodge jumps and can use multiple hammers when countering attacks. His other drawbacks are the huge cost of his Trio Attacks that become unusable if any of the trio is unconscious and his weakness to fire based attacks.
