Paper Mario: The Origami King (JP) (also called Paper Mario 6) is an upcoming Nintendo Switch game and the sixth game in the Paper Mario series. It will be released worldwide on July 17, 2020. The game was first announced in a trailer released on May 14, 2020.
Story
Not much is currently known about the game's story, but it is known that Mario will face a new villain, King Olly, the titular Origami King. He is assisted by King Olly's sister, Olivia.
Features
Several new features were shown in the game's May 2020 trailer.[5]
- By using a feat called the 1,000-fold Arms, Mario can extend one or both his arms, allowing him to grab far-away objects and pull on them. One scene in the trailer shows Mario using this to his advantage against Colored Pencils.
- A canoe that Mario is shown sailing down a river.
- Warp Pipes with numbers on them ranging from 1 to 6.
- A boat that Mario can sail across The Great Sea.
Development
Plans for a Switch Paper Mario game were leaked in early 2020. According to Eurogamer, Nintendo planned to reveal the game at E3 2020 as part of a presentation celebrating the Super Mario series' 35th anniversary, but had to change plans after the convention was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[6]The Origami King was announced via a trailer on May 14, 2020, and is scheduled for release on July 17, 2020.[7]
