Orphean

An Orphean as seen in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

The Orpheans are a race bug-like sentient humanoids in the Xenoblade series. They are mainly featured in Xenoblade Chronicles X where they are said to be an alien race from an unamed world who were exiled from the Ganglion after siding with the Humans.

History[]

The Orpheans are a race of extremely logical beings that relly almost exclusively on the Ovah, some sort of parasitic being that bonded with the Orpheans in the distant past and thus giving them this sort of colective consciousness that manifest into a "gut feeling" that encourage individuals to do what is considered good for the colective. Through unspecified events the Orpheans left their home planet and started working for the Ganglion until they realised that they had better chance at surviving if they sided with Humanity and their allies.

Orpheans usually reproduces by divising their own self into two new ones carrying their identity by using Senirapa Water, which allows the Ovah to perform such a biological reaction. After arriving on Mira, their culture was greatly affected by the influence of the planet as it resulted into the birth of new selves that were increasingly individualistic until a new subspecies of Orphean that can in fact be compared to an entirely new gender for their species was born. Another great change brought by Mira was their relation to the Ovah as they revered it as something sacred that only them could carry until they discovered that the entity was able to bond with Visigels, a species of parasite indigenous to Mira.

Biology[]

Orpheans are biologically similar to most humanoids in body shape but have some bug-like characteristics that goes with it, notably a mantis-like head and what appears to be an exoskeleton. They have four limbs, two arms and two legs. Their hands usually have four fingers each and they are able to regrow a missing limb in less than a day if they are cut off. With the appearance of a new Orphean gender, they can also be split into two categories. The regular Orpheans are usually blue in skin color while the new type of Orpheans are usually red and have less of a connection to the Ovah. Orpheans exclusively reproduce through fission by making contact with Senirapa Water, which eliminate the original self to give birth to two new ones.

Ovah[]

The Ovah is some sort of parasitic entity or virus that lives in symbiosis with the Orpheans and allows them to share some form of loose collective consciousness. In the distant past, before they began to inhabit the bodies of the Orpheans, the Ovah was once a single entity. It floated in the ocean of another world where Telethia also lived. Telethia, the Endbringer considers the Ovah impure, and it is hostile to Orpheans. The Ovah generally helps the Orpheans to survive by giving them "gut feelings" that are supposed to direct their behavior in a way that benefit the survival of their species. It is often revered by the ancient type of Orpheans who sees it as sacred and is less understood if even tolerated by the new Orpheans who are usually shown to be less likely to feel its call. The Ovah has been shown to be able to bond with non Orpheans but is extremely picky about its host and only has any compatibility with the Visigel on Mira.
