Notes[]

  • Throughout the Mega Man 7 strategy review, Dr. Wily's name is misspelled as "Wiley". Also, the article's introductory paragraph mistakenly says that Wily has returned "after two failures on the Super NES," likely referring to Mega Man X and Mega Man X2. The problem with this statement is that, since the Mega Man X games are set a century after the original Mega Man games, Dr. Wily obviously didn't appear in those games.
  • This issue's Player's Poll Contest became infamous for its grand prize, in which the winner would have appeared as an extra in the sequel to the 1994 movie The Mask. The contest's winner was Nathan Ryan Runk from Arbutus, Maryland, who would receive phone calls from Leslie Swan about further developments. When production on The Mask II was halted due to Jim Carrey declining on reprising his role, THQ marketing manager John Ardell sent Nathan a letter informing him that the movie's filming was postponed, along with a Mask II crew jacket and several of THQ's Super NES games (including The Mask game itself, which was also part of the contest's grand and second prizes). Nintendo also offered Nathan a cash prize of $5,000 (the estimated value of the grand prize package) to compensate; he agreed, and as a bonus, Nintendo gave him a copy of Pilotwings 64 with the check.[1] A very loose sequel to the movie, Son of the Mask, eventually came out in 2005, obviously without Nathan Runk's guest appearance, and seven years after its release, Nintendo Power's final issue briefly mentioned this contest, saying, "To whoever won that contest: sorry."
