Nintendo Minute is an American online gaming web series created by Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang for Nintendo of America's official YouTube channel.[1] The series was hosted by Ellis and Yang, who regularly showcased new and upcoming games as well as Nintendo's presence at conferences and events, serving as a successor to Nintendo Week and Nintendo Show 3D. From 2013 to 2021, the series aired over 400 episodes, with new episodes airing every Friday.
History[]
Series hosts Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang had worked at Nintendo of America as public relations managers prior to the creation of Nintendo Minute.[2][3] The series was created by the two as a way to expand Nintendo's then-sparse social media output, with Yang being inspired by YouTube content creators and Ellis being inspired by 1Up.com's The 1UP Show.[1] Episodes were uploaded to Nintendo of America's official YouTube channel, as well as the Nintendo eShop and the Nintendo Switch's News application.[4] Nintendo Minute episodes often appeared on the eShop's monthly charts as some of the platform's most-viewed videos.[5][6][7][8][9]
Following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Kit and Krysta occasionally uploaded videos of themselves playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Production[]
Production for the series was done without a proper production team for several years.[1] Stephanie Ngo served as producer since its creation.[10] Episodes were filmed on Mondays in a studio setting in Nintendo of America's San Francisco office.[3] All footage was then sent to Nintendo's office in Redmond, Washington, where it was to be edited by the AV team, with Ellis and Yang writing editing notes for the editors.[1] Later on, the series became more consistent with video uploads, uploading one new video almost every Friday.[1] Music for the series was composed by Dale North, who also composed the theme for the Nintendo Power Podcast and Nintendo eShop's The Download.[11]
Cancellation[]
The series aired its final episode on December 17, 2021.[12] Ellis and Yang later revealed in an interview with MinnMax that they had left Nintendo due to the closing of the company's San Francisco office, where Nintendo Minute was filmed.[13] Although the two were offered to relocate to Nintendo's Redmond office, Ellis and Yang both declined, leading to the series' cancellation.[13] Following Nintendo Minute's cancellation and their departure from Nintendo, Ellis and Yang began The Kit & Krysta Podcast in February 2022.[14]
In December 2022, all episodes of Nintendo Minute were set to private on Nintendo's YouTube channel.[15]
Ellis and Yang founded Never A Minute Marketing in 2023, a company that provides various marketing services to smaller video game studios.[14]
Overview[]
The series was hosted by the two hosts since the series began airing in Spring 2013. Early episodes were more sporadic, often lining up with major Nintendo releases or conventions. The format changed between episodes, especially as the show became more regular. Sometimes, the series featured gameplay previews, while other times they did unboxing for releasing Nintendo products and during events like E3 or PAX, they would do interviews with Nintendo developers. During off weeks, the hosts would attempt challenges with released Nintendo titles and compete in challenges related to Nintendo. The show also covered the Nintendo fan community, regularly inviting Nintendo YouTubers, interacting with the commenters and interacting with Nintendo fans at convention.
Description[]
This description is on the Nintendo Minute channel on the Nintendo Switch for anyone with an account in the Americas.[4]
"Want to see exclusive gameplay, interviews with game developers, and an insider's view into the world of Nintendo? Kit and Krysta have you covered! But remember, Nintendo Minute is never a minute."[4]
Logo[]
In earlier episodes of Nintendo Minute, the logo had a red bolded line and triangle that stretched out to reveal the words "Nintendo Minute" in dark gold.
In 2016, the line and triangle stayed, but rather than the shape expanding on its own, Miis representing Kit and Krysta grabbed both sides and stretched the logo out. The "Nintendo Minute" words are now dark red with a Mario Bros. level map in the same color. The subtitle "with Kit and Krysta" was added as well.
In 2017, a Nintendo Minute jingle was added, and would play throughout the entire episode. The animation changed as well, with a close-up image of Mario bashing a block, with the logo zooming out to reveal the Nintendo Minute logo. It is now a dark red speech bubble with the words "Nintendo Minute" now in bolded white bubble letters. The Super Mario Bros. level map icon stayed, and underneath the red box, the subtitle "with Kit and Krysta" was placed in the white section.
From 2019-2021, the theme song was louder with a higher pitch, and the logo was slightly more vibrant.
Jingle[]
As of 2018, Nintendo Minute has a theme song. It is quieter in the earlier episodes, but recently it got louder and higher-pitched.
Slogan[]
The slogan, stated at the end of every episode, is, 'Nintendo Minute is never a minute!", mostly stated by Kit.
Ending Theme[]
Plays at the end of every episode since "Unboxing all LEGO Mario sets coming August 1", posted on June 16.
The theme was composed by Dale North, who composed many of the Nintendo Minute songs.[11] The lyrics for the theme are as follows:
Nintendo Minute is never a minute (Minute).
Sit down, relax, because time has no limit (Limit).
Kit and Krysta are having so much fun,
Hanging out, playing games
'Til it's time to run
Now we're done.
