Game of the Year
Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy is a game that will probably go down in history as the best that the Wii has to offer. The gravity gameplay mechanics contained are unlike anything we've ever seen, and blasting through space never seemed to get old. The game may seem linear - though that's one of the highlights of it.

Runner-Ups
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Phantom Hourglass seemed to be a mix of Wind Waker and the classic bird's eye view Zelda games. Stylus control works perfectly and the game never gets tedious as some installments in the series tend to be. The final chapter in the Metroid Prime series, a sad though true fact. Pointing Samus' blaster is easier than ever thanks to the Wii's pin-point accuracy, and while some complain that there's no multiplayer - It's not a burden. I never cared for Trace Memory, Cing's previous title. In fact, I pretty much hated it. In Hotel Dusk, you take control of Kyle Hyde, and this mystery video game is unlike any I've played before.
Wii Game of the Year
Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy seems flawless, and tring to find any sort of minor blemish will be a challenge; and if you managed to do so, it'd probably be immensely negligible.

Runner-Ups
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Super Paper Mario
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
The game's pin-point accuracy makes the game the perfect shooter for the Wii. The best third person shooter on the Wii, and a something that will be hard to surpass. While Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was a great game, it just didn't innovate much upon the series. SPM does, and it's perfect. Uniqe puzzles and great gameplay make this the best puzzle game of the year. Rumor has it that Capcom's making a sequel - let's all hope so!
Nintendo DS Game of the Year
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

I was unsure if this game would work, as controlling Link via a stylus just didn't seem right at the time. Previous experiences with a similar control style never seemed to work for me, with games such as Super Mario 64 DS coming to mind. However, executing attacks works perfectly, and Phantom Hourglass ends up being one of the best games that the DS has to offer.

Runner-Ups
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Lunar Knights
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 surpasses Cing's previous title Trace Memory in so many brilliant ways. A great cast and challenging puzzles round up the package. This game once again perfects the Pokémon series and ads a whole bunch of new species to the mix. Trading Pokémon online is surely the best part! This game was created by the crew behind the Metal Gear series. I didn't know what to expect, though this RPG video game is actually pretty fun!
Virtual Console Game of the Year
Tie - Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I couldn't choose between Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, two of the greatest games ever released. Both are just so fun and will probably always stand up to the test of time. Super Mario World is one of the greatest sidescrollers and Ocarina of Time is unarguably one of the best 3D adventure games.

Runner-Ups
Super Metroid
Pokémon Snap
Super Mario Bros. 3
In my opinion, Super Metroid is the second best Metroid game, coming second only to Metroid Prime. Classic 2D gameplay at its best! A quirky title that was released on the Nintendo 64. It includes updated wifi funcionality which allows you to send pictures to your friends. No other Mario game includes better power ups than Super Mario Bros. 3. The raccoon suit, among many others, are superb.
Star of the Year
Mario

If there was ever a year in which Mario would be the star of the year, it would have to be this one. Not only has the portly plumber appeared in Super Mario Galaxy, this year's best game, though he's also stared in multiple others. These games include Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers Charged, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Mario Party DS, and seven Virtual Console games. WOW!

Runner-Ups
Mii
Samus Aran
Sonic the Hedgehog
Mii's have become a cultural phenomenon, and have appeared in multiple games, not to mention tons of new specific channels for the Wii. Samus proved just how awesome she is in her appearance in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. She also appeared in Metroid and Super Metroid for the VC. You may think it's odd that I chose Sonic over Link, though he's appeared in multiple great games, some VC titles, and for the first time appeared with Mario! Oh, and Brawl next year!
Platformer of the Year
Super Mario Galaxy

Need I explain why this game deserves this award? I think not!

Runner-Ups
Super Paper Mario
Sonic Rush Adventure
Dewy's Adventure
The game features both RPG and platforming elements, though I'd say it's more of a platformer than anything. Best feature - turning the 2D world into a 3D one. I'm not always fond of Sonic games, though I've always loved the 2D games. This game builds upon the original, and includes 3D boss battles A quirky title made by the guys who created Elebits; and this title is arguably better!
RPG of the Year
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

This game didn't exactly innovate upon Path of Radiance, though nevertheless is just as good. The tactical RPG genre is one of my favorites, and this game does not fail to impress with brilliant gameplay and a great plot.

Runner-Ups
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Lunar Knights
Worms: Open Warfare 2
This was clearly the best Pokémon game, and collecting all of the species in the game will certainly be one of the hardest challenges in the game. Once again, a game that I was certainly surprised to see was actually a fun title. I've never played the successors, but it didn't matter a whole lot. I've been a fan of Worms since it was first created, and the fact that you're now able to play the game online just fills me with joy!
